Mercedes E-Class Spy Video
Lets not beat about the bush, other than the facelifted SL class, the styling of recent models coming from Mercedes having been found wanting, we all hope this trend is at an end with the next generation Mercedes E-Class. Upcoming models such as the 2011 Audi A6 could seriously threaten Mercedes' position in the mid-size premium segment which they also have to content with the likes of the BMW 5-series, Cadillac CTS and the Lexus LS. This latest spy video of the E class shows a prototype pumping its muscle round a wet Nurburgring.
The new model takes the codename W212 and as we can see the new model is gradually shedding the annoying camoflage blocking the view of what we really want to see.
Gone will be the SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) system in favour a more conventional system which will get wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control, ceramic-composite discs are expected to be available for the AMG version. The styling shows similar characteristics to the S-class, with the wheel-arch extensions and huge bumpers showing the most striking similarities. A wider frame grille gives the E class a more meaty look and behind that taping we should find the “four eyes face“ headlights.
Mercedes will once again introduce a range of its new technologies into the W212 E-class including lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and a tire wear warning system. There are no major surprises expected in the engine department with the usual V6- and V8-engines, plus a normally aspirated, 500-plus-bhp 6.3-liter V8 for the E63 AMG model.
It is still more than a year until we will see the debut of the E-class at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
What is the shape of side mirrors in the first graphic??
that's a lot of body roll on those turns lol looks like its floating on air and just whooshing side to side like its high (if that made any sense :P)
i like the current e class (even if it is getting abit old) but if the new one ends up lookin like the photoshop pics i dont think that i will like it, the tail lights r horrendous and the '4 eye' headlights r horrid, come on merc i no u can do better!
These "artist renditions" are ridiculous. The whole car is out of proportion. There is no way Mercedes-Benz will botch the design of their bread-n-butter car - the E-Class.
AMG should get 4x4, there is simply to much torque and power and RWD doesn't work well with that, some traction problems does occur.
Supposedly, this new generation of ESP is so good that Mercedes could abandon its SBC system completely. With a CAN (Controller Area Network) link from the Airmatic DC processor & CMOS camera that controls the Pre-Safe, lane-departure warning and traffic-sign identification systems; the ESP processor has considerably more inputs. Instead of measuring the slip/yaw angle in relation to driver input, like all stability systems past, this new generation supposedly computes available traction at each wheel, in real time. With a traction computer like that, I'd think a high amount of available tq would be accessible all the time. Even in the rain!
I hope the all-new E-class lives up to a greater standard.
Only thing to better this car would be the mono wiper.

looks promising.
