Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series Spy Video

Every year there are always a few vehicles in development that gives you that little tingling feeling in your stomach - like you have just scored in a nightclub with someone well out of your league. Recent models that come to mind include the Audi R8, Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR-1, but now we have new baby on its way in the form of the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series and we have a video of it burning rubber on the superb Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

The very hub of the latest sportcar to come from Mercedes is certainly found under the hood in AMGs 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 which has been tuned to get another 66hp bringing total output to 670hp, although some reports suggest this could be as high as 720hp. Possibly this could be considered going over the top in the German horsepower wars, but hey, we don't mind.

The performance aspect of the model doesn't stop there as the SL Black Series will get carbon fibre body panels and the folding hardtop will be dropped in favour of a fixed roof, both contributing to a greatly reduced weight of 1850kg.

We expect to see the unveiling of the model at the German Grand Prix in July with sales commencing early 2009, but get in quick – only 350 units are planned for production.

What does 'black' really mean?

To answer your question samuelzeus: Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light. Mixing paints, inks or other pigments of every color in theory eventually forms a mixture which absorbs all light and so appears black. Thus black is sometimes incorrectly called 'a mixture of all colors', while in fact an object emitting or reflecting all colors is perceived as white. Sometimes black is described as an "achromatic color", but in practice it can be considered a color, as in expressions like "black cat" or "black paint" or "AMG black series"

My dear Greenacre, you've got it all wrong!! Mixing every colour gives white, and not black. Concentrate on your physics class in the future........lol!!!

Actually, mixing only certain colors gives white, such as blue, red and green or cyan, yellow and magenta. However, this only works with the mixing of light waves, not pigments, as in paint. With pigment, a certain color of light cannot be reflected if it has been absorbed by another pigment already. Thus, when mixing pigments, you get a dark color, close to black.

Well I really do know that BMWdude's saying that it is true that if mixing all PAINT of all the colours will provide the colour 'black' whereas joining all the SPECTRUM of the colour will provide the colour 'white'. Physically both right. Now the question what does this has got to do with Mercedes "BLACK" series. I don't think the black series will ever implicate any of meaning like 'evel' and 'misfortune'. So I still wait for someone who can answer the question...

The black Series, probably is a reflection on the dark side of mercedes.

If you see other models from the black series, they all seem to be more aggressive in design.

either way they get now complaints out of me, I like the direction they going with this.

oh, physical advices. thank you guys. But it's pretty simple, what Mercedes is meaning by "Black Series". All carproduction will come to an end. And as final and last production, there will be a Black Series to remind that car. And what is better then a very sportive version? In the future, people will say: "I've got one of the last Mercedes SL of the Type R230. DO you remind it? It was the very most powerful one was made" After this "Black Series" a new SL will be made. Maybe the R231?
