New Evidence Confirms Super R8 will get the 5.2 Litre V10 Engine

It turns out our sources over at Audi were not misleading us at all on this instance of a V10 R8. These pictures pretty much confirms the scenario of ten cylinders hidden inside the engine of the super R8. For those who felt mildly entertained by the R8 in its 309kW/ 420 bhp guise and were longing for more, well this is undoubtedly it. Count the number of raised notches on the engine and see five on each side. That’s 10. Ten for cylinders, 5.2 for displacement. You know who from…

Jalopnik received these anonymous heads-up pictures which we are told are of a pre-production mule, one of several being loaned out to special R8 owners. How special this guy who took these pics will be after Audi logs on is a matter of debate. Nevertheless we say thanks dude! Give us a spin when your car arrives.

There are a few V10s kicking around the VAG empire though. What's the displacement and the power figure?

It makes you wonder , when i used to work for GM/vauxhall uk tech centre , they used to put full prototype irmscher body kitted cars on the motorways to see how much interest they would get just by driving up and down it .

by _M7_ | May 14, 2008 10:32 PM
This mexicsn always jajajaes on silly stuff!! Audi has magnificent engines too you genius!

by NitrousOxide | May 14, 2008 11:24 PM
wait, what exactly does this have to do with BMW?

by jai_mav | May 14, 2008 11:01 PM
Nothing!!! It's basically Lambo Galardo V10 engine.

by C-KING | May 14, 2008 11:30 PM
It´s a V10 but WITHOUT the twin turbos. this basically means the engine will be less powerful than the RS6 V10 Twin Turbo engine (which has 580bhps). I think Porsche has had an influence on that decision to not dethrone the GT-2 with its 530 bhp.

I jusy wonder how long before it catches on fire and burns to the ground :-)

by homerlovesbeer | May 14, 2008 11:59 PM
Only the turbo V10s have burned so far...

Wait a minute, is Audi really feeding off Lambo and VW on engine technology? Audi has enough and goog brain power to make their own super engine as they did with the 5.2 V8 in the RS4 and 2 litre fsi. Why don't they just get off their lazy asses and make their own engine like Merc and BMW.It's embarasing for them to use Lambor engines and why don't they just use Porsche engines seeing that Porsche cars are super road tamers.

"5.2 V8 in the RS4" no such engine fool, its a 4.2L V8. "Why don't they just use Porsche engines" what a stupid comment answer is pretty obvious as long as you have 1/2 a brain. And who would actually complain about having a Lamborghini engine in their car? LOL, freak!

audi owns lambo...

by gtrs09 | June 6, 2008 7:38 AM
lamborghini does profit from audi parts not the other way around

by catchmyshadow | May 15, 2008 12:02 AM
If it's the V10 TFSI from RS6 it has nothing to do with the Gallardo engine, except it's shape - V10. The displacement is different, there are two turbos, intercoolers, different compression... pretty much everything. Just read what are all the differences between Audi B5 S4 and RS4 ;) You'll be amazed how different the RS4 engine is.

The Audi V10 shares few mechanical and electronic similarities as a whole, but the heads are almost an exact Lambo match. The "brand sharing" is so bad, the head on the US 2.5L inline 5s in VW Jettas, Golfs, and beetles is around 90% similar to one of the V10 heads in Audi and Lambo V10s. Personally, I think its a great idea, you know, "share the wealth" (of information).

by benz_man | May 15, 2008 7:10 PM
it´s a pure FSI engine as explained, no turbos.

by catchmyshadow | May 15, 2008 12:08 AM
I do not like Audi using the Gallardo engine which is what this is...Audi made some improvements such as FSI tech but this is the Gallardo v10. I could see sharing Lamborghini engines with Porsche but why Audi...?

finally, this car is more then just a well balanced pile of springs. aka supercar with a tame engine.

by Joe_Limon | May 15, 2008 1:05 AM
I just hope that porsche hasn't got their hands on this..why bother making a V10 which only produces 80 more hp?If they actually want It to be slower than the GT2

by Bernardo | May 15, 2008 1:30 AM
it would be nicer with 5.0 V10 TT from RS6

by Swifthead | May 15, 2008 2:12 AM
yes it would...

by benz_man | May 15, 2008 7:12 PM
nice and nicer :D

by Pentium | May 15, 2008 3:00 AM
a clanky v10

by aesthetics | May 21, 2008 3:00 PM
Lamborghini is a subsidiary of Audi AG... some of you need to learn your facts.

by gtrs09 | June 6, 2008 7:43 AM
Actually Mr know it all, Lamborghini comes under the VAG umbrella.
