The collaboration of the Mercedes-Mclaren SLR comes to an end next year as each manufacturer will go their separate ways to create a new model of their own. We already reported earlier this week some inside information on the Mclaren version, now come the turn of the Mercedes.

The new Mercedes SLC/Gullwing will be aimed primarily at the Porsche 911 Turbo with a target price of roughly €150,000 – both a coupe (codenamed C197) and a roadster (codenamed R197) will be produced and it will be slightly smaller than the outgoing SLR.

Mercedes will introduce a new advanced aluminium spaceframe technology which will contribute towards a target weight of 1650kg distributed 48% to the rear and 52% to the front which is 45kg less than the SLR. Mercedes are also reported to be developing a new composite brake system which is not just lighter but also stronger and less fade-prone than the conventional set-up.

The exterior design will be largely based on the SL class which has been received very well since its facelift earlier this year. Although There will be certain design elements which will tell it apart including roof-hinged gullwing doors, almost upright bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lamps, a motorised rear spoiler and a pair of downforce-producing front and rear aprons.

Power will come from AMG's 6.3-litre V8 producing 550bhp and 445lb ft of torque, allowing the Gullwing to achieve 0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds, maximum speed stands at 185mph – fuel consumption is said to be 14litres/100km.

The coupe is likely to make its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the roadster set to arrive a year later, there are only 6000 units of each model planned for production and is currently pencilled in to stop in 2013.

0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds!!!!!!!! WHAT

DM NEED AREAL SUPER CAR LIKE THE SLR

BUT THE SLR IS CANCELED NOW

WOW THE NEW CORVEETE ZR1 GONNA BEAT THEM ALL

by HISH | May 11, 2008 1:01 AM
it's "Cancelled".

by blah | May 11, 2008 10:34 PM
0-60 is not everything !!

by Rapid | May 11, 2008 1:27 AM
God, I love that rendering. Would look outstanding if it will look like that..

by paaaaaatrick | May 11, 2008 1:34 AM
i concur, that rendering is delicious, i could just eat that car up!!

by huhnspinne | May 11, 2008 6:18 AM
so if someone wants the slr in 2 years he has to look for used ones .. because there will be no brand new ones

by nendor | May 11, 2008 1:43 AM
The same as the greatest of all - McLaren F1 ;) And Rapid is absolutely right - 0-60 is just a small piece from the big picture. If they want they can easily make a car that's gonna kick ZR1's ass @ the Ring. Europe's never gonna be second...

the 550bhp sounds a bit imposible, they can't have a supercar that is less powerful than both the sl65 and sl black sersies and the rest of the 65s. That's why the black series sl won't get full 700+hp but 600 something, not to compete with the supercar slr

by janobr | May 11, 2008 2:15 AM
A brands "Halo" car can be significantly less powerful than production models if the vehicle is extremely light; showcasing some type of engineering prowess through more than just power developement.

by benz_man | May 11, 2008 9:02 PM
WHY DONT MERCEDES BUILD A MID-ENGINED SUPERCAR???? THIER CARS LOOK PRETTY MUCH "ORDINARY" WHEN THEY ARE FRONT ENGINED!!

by NitrousOxide | May 11, 2008 2:20 AM
it looks chunky nd i like that... i especially like the curve that goes around the door

by BabyMilo | May 11, 2008 2:45 AM
They do actually. It goes by the alias of "Paggani Zonda"

by tootall | May 11, 2008 2:51 AM
No.

by alessandro | May 11, 2008 10:56 AM
That'd be exactly the 7.3 litre engine they no longer produce. Plus, Pagani isn't part of the MB group.

by ceven | May 11, 2008 3:06 PM
There's only one g in Pagani hey

by Kaamraan | May 12, 2008 6:01 PM
The fact that some are people here are comparing this cars performance to the ZR1 Corvette makes me smile. How much does that ZR1 cost anyway? How about in Euros? Great comparison, huh?

by MiracleWhipp | May 11, 2008 4:24 AM
godddddddddddddddddddd thats is beautiful wow...Mercedes-Benz always does it right in their designs, amazing

by MattAAron | May 11, 2008 8:06 AM
R-class?

by bristol411s3 | May 11, 2008 11:27 AM
A & B class? SL?

by kevoluetion | May 12, 2008 9:20 AM
Next gen E and CLK? New C-Class?

by Kaamraan | May 12, 2008 5:57 PM
huh?? :O the C, CLK, next E n for sure the SL look good!!

by wolff | May 13, 2008 6:52 PM
Oh yeah I'm sorry- the Lexus GS- I mean the new CLK and E look pretty good. And yeah about that SL- Can you seriously tell me you would take /that/ over the current SL?!?

by Kaamraan | May 14, 2008 5:59 PM
This MB will be a kind of memorial to Albert Camus as well. Beautiful car of cours, unlike SL I hope.

by alessandro | May 11, 2008 11:00 AM
Looks perfect. Can't wait to see the real one. The rendering looks amazing! I hope it will be a monster. Engine with around 700hp should do the work. Mercedes Benz for 150.000? is not bad.

by 3Iceman | May 11, 2008 11:25 AM
Yes. But the problem has always been noy enough people want SLRs. In 2 years McLaren will have the P11 to offer people anyway.

by bristol411s3 | May 11, 2008 11:26 AM
Brilliant every time you look at it.

Their car design should be done by Larson himself and not some dude at MB's. :D

by ceven | May 11, 2008 2:54 PM
Looks like a SL and a Reventon got together for the night and this is the result.

by dodgeyaussie | May 11, 2008 9:47 PM
Thats like saying the Ssangyong cars are Mercedes cos they've got mercedes engines... mercedes will never make as focussed a supercar as the Pagani Zonda

by joelynn | May 11, 2008 10:37 PM
(I was replying to tootall but the computer went weird)

by joelynn | May 11, 2008 10:39 PM
When the SLC release in the 2010 with a similar look to the rendering,it can be "out of date"!

by Cyx | May 12, 2008 2:35 AM
yep...reventon looks rock ...but the engine could be the same as the slr. I dont like to much Mercedes but that superchrged engine have a lot of torque and for that guy who talk stupid thing whit zr1...american cars are bad everybody who really know about cars knows that. and also...Mercedes engine usualy are not so good mabye they must learn from BMW, Ferrari, Nissan or RUF

by _M7_ | May 12, 2008 3:06 AM
I'm feeling sorry for the Merc!! They've tried their hardest to beat BMW.But It's no use. As you would have known, the BMW Z10 can do a 0- 60 in 3.3 seconds ( see wikipedia) and has a top speed in excess of 230 mph. But it'll still be of interest to traditional Merc fans, I suppose.

by BMWdude | May 12, 2008 4:40 AM
BMW Z10?I have never heart about it,just now I was checking out the pics of Z10 on Google and I found that looks much like Audi in its back.I think BMW won't design a supercar in Audi-style

by Cyx | May 12, 2008 7:16 AM
3 years of production .. it seems that mercedes are changing their plans usually it is 4-7 years of production

by nendor | May 12, 2008 8:45 AM
Yea the bumper does look abit like Reventon, but looks great, the SL should look like this!!

by kevoluetion | May 12, 2008 9:22 AM
0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds !! THAT IS REALLY GERMAN MADE.

by german-cars-lover | May 12, 2008 9:55 AM
These guys at Merc just can not design a car of their own ideas. I'm afraid that this car has stolen design cues from the Lamborghini evolution. This deignof a tapered front infact was started by Opel on the current Astras what i guess you call Vauxhalls in Europe. The carlooks good in any case but can you imagine if it was a chinese company that came up with this Lamborghini/Opel design cues...

by Wisp | May 12, 2008 10:21 AM
Yes I can imagine an opel badge on that

by kevoluetion | May 12, 2008 11:52 AM
Oh man i've been smoking socks again, i meant the Lamborghini Reinvention. Sorry for the mistake.

by Wisp | May 12, 2008 10:23 AM
Reventon*

by mps | May 12, 2008 11:03 AM
Hahahahaha!!!! Evolution, then Reinvention???? sum1's socks must be laced in sumthin potent...

by Decypha | May 14, 2008 7:07 PM
Please dont compare Chevy to Mercedes. Its like comparing Guiness to piss water Budweiser. There is no comparison in quality and design. No matter what GM does it will never never be as good as any foreign car.
