This summer we will see the unveiling of the All New Vauxhall Insignia at the British Motor Show in London, but little did we know until this recent announcement that it will also be sporting the brand new Griffin Logo with a new look for 2008.

Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall’s Managing Director, said  “While the new-look Griffin pays homage to our 100 year-plus manufacturing heritage in the UK, it also encapsulates Vauxhall’s fresh design philosophy, first showcased in the current Astra, and set to continue with Insignia".

Vauxhall’s Griffin Flies to New Horizon

Long established as the face of the marque, Vauxhall’s Griffin will be given a new look for 2008. The new incarnation follows the rapid progress Vauxhall has made in vehicle design and overall brand perception in recent years, underpinned by the success of both Astra and Corsa models.

Displaying a more dynamic and contemporary look, the new Griffin will make its first appearance on the new Insignia, which will debut at the British International Motor Show in July. It will then appear progressively on every all-new Vauxhall launched in the future.

Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall’s Managing Director, said that the new-look Griffin represented far more than just a badge re-design: “While the new-look Griffin pays homage to our 100 year-plus manufacturing heritage in the UK, it also encapsulates Vauxhall’s fresh design philosophy, first showcased in the current Astra, and set to continue with Insignia.

“This recent evolution of the brand has resulted in Vauxhall’s incredible sales success over the last three years. Its retail share in the UK has increased significantly, while the manufacturing plants in Luton and Ellesmere Port produced in excess of 220,000 vehicles, with 59 per cent going for export, and the remainder making an important contribution to domestic sales.”

First public airing of the new Griffin will be later this summer, on Vauxhall’s Griffin House HQ in Luton. Retailers’ corporate identity will begin the change of the new Griffin in August 2008.

i agree with that. otherwise i think a nice update, for what vauxhall hope will be exciting time to come afetr te introduction of the insignia

by worldcarfan87 | April 8, 2008 11:50 PM
I agree. I see no reason why we couldn't just be Opel overe here. I am not sure Vauxhall even makes cars in the UK anymore.

by bristol411s3 | April 8, 2008 11:44 PM
i think he just mean removing the vauxhall text from the badge.... to give it a cleaner look

by worldcarfan87 | April 8, 2008 11:52 PM
Vauxhall is important to British buyers due to the history of the brand. Changing the cars to Opels would hurt sales figures for sure.

That looks like something that came from the mozilla foundation ;o

by Kepe | April 8, 2008 11:58 PM
i think that that is a pretty stylish badge but the problem is that it is a vauxhall... ;D

If GM had any marketing sense they would re-brand all their european car business Chevrolet and do away with Vauxhall and Opel which are totally insignificant in global terms. This brand idealy reflects it's American roots but with an exotic european name and would remove the existing confusion caused by having the same cars with different badges.

by bentley | April 9, 2008 1:29 AM
You can't be serious? Chevrolet means nothing over here. Correction, it means rebadged Daewoos. There is nothing exotic about the name Chevrolet. And Americans roots are not something that markets well to Europeans. This has to be the worst idea I have read ever.

It looks like the griffin is giving a "thumbs-up". With a freakishly long thumb. And a flag tied to it.

by Bremen_Koenigsegg | April 9, 2008 6:02 AM
yeahh i agree with bristol411s3 second comment... people took it badly when they rebadged the daewoos so wat about wen they do it with some good brands?!?

by BabyMilo | April 9, 2008 8:56 AM
I agree too. The Chevrolet badge means nothing here

by Kieranieo | June 13, 2008 11:08 PM
very nice badge...well done

by homerlovesbeer | April 9, 2008 5:06 PM
@bentley. that's an outstanding idea... really outstanding! Opel for example has it's very own tradition in Germany like Vauxhall in the UK and Holden in Australia. How can you think, we give it up for a label, that reminds us to big Pickups, V8-Vans, the Corvette or some fullsize limousines like the Caprice? In this time we know Lada Niva or Daewoo as Chevrolet. Another extreme for us. We are in the middle with Astra, Vectra, Corsa... that's all german engineering. and is rebadged as Vauxhall, Holden AND Chevrolet so far. Why we shoud change our traditions for complete different americans?

by xlumino | April 9, 2008 5:09 PM
oh sorry: I like the new logo. WITH "Vauxhall"-scribt So now all the german Opel-pimper with their Vauxhall-logos are blessed ^^

by xlumino | April 9, 2008 5:11 PM
Change it or not ..... it's a loser , anyway.

by german-cars-lover | April 10, 2008 2:32 AM
All I know is that if I was given the choice of three identical cars to drive with the only difference being the badges: Vauxhall;Chevrolet or Opel, I would choose the Chevrolet.

by bentley | April 10, 2008 8:21 PM
I agree with you.

by german-cars-lover | April 10, 2008 10:13 PM
I would most certainly not choose the Chevy. But if they were all the same, who really gives a rat's arse. You'd be pretty stupid to choose any one over the other.

Vauxhall is a proud brand that's over a century old and has at times made some of the best cars in the world. In the 1920s the 'Prince Henry' Vauxhall and the famous 30/98 were absolute rippers. So the heritage is there. Sure they made some clunkers in the 50s and 60s and 70s (as did Audi) but their current range is perfectly adequate and some of them are quite good. Your perception of the brand is based on recent experience, so if they keep making great cars well, over time you will think the Vauxhall name is quite cool.

by Lutzie | April 11, 2008 6:07 AM
Lutzie is right, vauxhall is becoming a decent company, much better then chevrolet. Everyone whosays they would own a chevy( which by the way is rebadged Deweo)over a vectra or insignia is a liar

by Kieranieo | June 13, 2008 11:11 PM
it looks good, and is a good move by the company.
