Ford CEO Mulally Earns $22 million
Ford Motor Company is reporting that it is paying its CEO Alan Mulally more than USD22 million (€13,95 million) for work done during the 2007 financial year. Ford reported losses amounting to USD2.7 billion during the same period. Union boss Ron Gettelfinger who serves as President of United Auto Workers said: "We did not sacrifice so that management could find a way to reward themselves with higher compensation,” referring to the agreement the UAW made with the auto industry in 2007.
Mulally replaced heir apparent Bill Ford Jr. at the helm in 2006 when he was hired by Ford, now chairman, from a successful flight running aero company Boeing. That year he received USD39 million in compensation for his troubles. Ford is to reward all workers, including hourly ones in North America with bonuses as a thank you for helping to guide the company through hard times. It aims to return to profitability in 2009 after narrowing annual losses by USD10 billion in 2007. Partly to thank are the sales of the Aston Martin brand. Jaguar and Land Rover money should only reflect in next year’s annual financial report and we know more or less how much that will be already.
lol thats hilarious... why don't they cut that 22 million dollars he earned in half or even more and use that money to make the company better?? you dont NEED 22 million to survive... what a greedy ************ better company... more money... more profitability... common sense!!!
maybe he has a very poor family and he needs every dollar to feed them... poor guy
and 11 million dollars isn't enough? lol even 2 million dollars will keep you happy for awhile
also he recieved 39 million the previous year... im pretty sure he still has a hefty amount of that still in his bank haha :P
is this why they sold aston martin, jaguar and land rover? so he can buy lots of them and a few mansions. or does he prefer ferraris and lambos?
this kind of stuff happens all the time. what a greedy f***ing pr*k. like blabla said, he lost the comapny that much and he pays himself $22m? piece of s***.
wow, he must have one very hungry family if he needs that much to feed them.
$22 million isn't that much. Think how big ford is. And then realize how much more microsoft executives get. Sure they aren't recording losses, but remember the blame finger only comes out when sh!t hits the fan.
are u serious?? 22 million ISNT that much??? wth are u on bud?? 22 mil will pay off debts... give some to fam members...buy a nice house (not a 13 million dollar mansion like sum dumba$$es would...) and still have at least 19 or 20 mil left over... u on crack bud
I am serious, $22 mill is actually kind of small compared to most people who run companies as big as ford.
ford might be big as a company... but what they are selling is "crap" in terms of fuel efficiency (which is the most important at the moment right now with consumers)...that's why imports nowadays are selling more and more everyday and bringing down the Big Three. other than that... 22 mil. is still enough to survive even though it may be small for such a big company
yes and no. Yes there are a lot of dud cars (pretty much anything branded Chrysler), and no todays market isn't entirely about fuel economy. Fuel economy does play a bigger role in deciding a vehicle nowadays among the average consumer. But it isn't the driving factor that is hurting the American car companies. Imported cars from Europe and japan are known to be more reliable, and now a days the Japanese ones are just as cheap if not cheaper to fix as then home grown monstrosities. That coupled with very toned down "modern" styling cues that most new North American cars have, and you have your reason why Ford/GM/Chrysler are finding a hard market to sell in.
And the most blatant contempt for the average american buyer arises when you compare their german siblings (Ford EU, Opel/Vauxhall) which are among the best european top sellers in terms of quality, reliabitlity, fuel efficiency and handling, especially Ford...
tru tru yea and thats the sad part ck314... the euro spec north american i must admit are far better in almost every way compared to what we find over here made by the same company :(
take a crappy company turn it around and make it LOSE more money then lay off a few people. shut down a few plants. ruin people's lives. cut their pay plan. sell off some off your assets (rover, jag, aston and soon volvo)....and reward the person who did all this with 22 million...makes perfect sense!
y'all are jealous because he can afford nazi-style orgies and you dont!
Once you are a CEO it seems you can do no wrong, if the company collapses under you you still get rewarded. Is he really 22 times more intelligent and inventive than a manager they could get for a million?
Ford was in deep crap long before he got there. He is perhaps going to help sort it all out... not that I really care. I'd be asking some hard questions if I was unfortunate enough to be a Ford shareholder though!
I agree that it's not his fault that Ford is sinking, it's the poor products. Still, such a salary does leave a bitter taste... maybe he should try a week on a production line somewhere, show him where his $22 million comes from
FORD ... GM ... Microsoft ... it doesn't matter which company it is ... these executive salaries being handed out are nothing short of an obscenity
These CEO's make all this money and they still do not want to pay for the employee healthcare and retirement?
All these comments sound very communist. Anyone can be a CEO of a major company. It all lies in your drive and determination. If you are comfortable with what you have, then you probably never will make over 1 million a year. And as to your comment eddie, most major companies offer a huge incentive plan. It's only when you get to the smaller companies that this really becomes an issue.
Gee.... no body is worth that kinda money. Come on!
Some professional athletes make more then that in a year. If you ask me, they are less deserving.
Well the manager of Ontario Power Generation which is a government company and supposed to be somewhat fair in pricing has a salary of 1.8 Million a year....And ford is waayyy bigger. Making $ is easy when you sign your own paycheque.
Give the guy a break. $22m is a lot of money. But when you consider these companies profits can reach high into the tens of billions, YEARLY, it all comes into perspective. I can live on $22m for the rest of my life because I live a 100K lifestyle. When you've been bringing in $40-$50m a year for some time and you've adjusted your lifestyle accordingly, a 50% cut is substantial. Especially if you've been doing your job and doing it well. Even if Ford hasn't made a profit yet, Mulally is making most of the right steps to ensure a profit soon. So, he shouldn't even get paid half of what his peers make for what is arguably twice the effort? Good old American greed, I mean Capitalism...
benz_man you are right it must be very hard for him to only get 22 million this year... poverty is a bitch!!!
You're not looking at the whole picture. Think objectively. A 50% cut in anyones salary is painful. What would you have to sacrifice if your employer cut your pay by 50%?
He looks so skinny someone should give him some foodstamps.
if my employer would cut me 22 million I would definately resign.

So Ford lost at least $13 billion since he's the CEO so they rewarded him with $61 million. That really makes a lot of sense...
