BMW M3 Convertible & CS Concept Make North American Debuts
BMW’s Concept CS is now showing off its futuristic interpretation of a sports coupe GT at the New York International Auto Show being held in Manhattan, NYC. The Concept CS you’ll recall, made its first public appearance at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2007. The car, bigger than a 7 Series, is the next style benchmark for BMW, taking flame surfacing to its next level.
Featuring an interior fit for a proper GT, the Concept CS will definitely be built, according to our sources inside BMW. Meanwhile, the M3 Convertible also makes its American debut at the show. M3 Convertible fits the same 4.0-litre V8 found in the coupe and saloon versions. It pronounces 414 bhp from its natural aspiration. M DCT, the new double-clutch gearbox, has been presented in the M3 Convertible. The 7-speed transmission looks set to star in other BMW products of the near future, especially upcoming M cars as well as its twin-turbo powered cars.
Present too at New York are the new X6, 1 Series coupe and Convertible, and the stonking 335D. BMW and other German automakers are keen to get Americans into the diesel swing of things as quickly as possible.
For some odd reason the front profile from far away reminds me of a Dodge...I don't like that too much.
I really like the paint, is that Mercedes alubeam flake detailing?
really? I when I saw them the first thing that popped into my mind was a girl wearing way to much eyeshadow.
This car is the end of history! The mankind of automobile-evolution! So much better than most human...
I wet my pants everytime that I think of the possibility of this car becaming true and getting M'ed!
Pretty cool! They could improve on the headlights abit and the grille is way too wide.
BMW design is too hit and miss. The 7 (iMo) was elegant and nicely proportioned from the start. Then came the 5, which just looks lacking. The 3 sedan and coupe are classic designs, then came the chunky hard top. The 1 is butt ugly, now comes this CS thing. BMW has lost its nice balance of grace and attitude.
bmw has only recently gained some balance of grace and attitude. There is no way all of the old square beamers had any grace, and the attitude they were sporting was somewhere along the lines of a pitbull.
There are some ugly ducklings out there now that you've mentioned it. The 1 series and the X3 in particular, 7 and 6 series is way too big and clumsy. This CS is great except for the front end. Its a concept, so lets see what happens.
Personally I think the CS is overrated. Many consider it to be the epitome of BMW's (especially Chris Bangle's) design abilities, but the front end of the car doesn't really go along with the rest of the body. From the side, you have the elegant flowing lines of a "four door coupe" and the rear end is decently pretty. And then all of a sudden in the front, you get an aggressive (not even), sort of ugly profile. Yes I agree that this car is a huge improvement in Bangle's part (his 7 series before the facelift was just plain ugly, as is the rear end of the 3 series sedan), and I hope that this car is a harbinger of better things to come from BMW.
I'll call this car the "shark face". This car is savage looking like the great white. Kool.
Simply amazing. I hope this translates directly to the new 7.
That's what I'm thinking. I'm still holding out hope that this is just a concept model of the new 7. Does this thing seat four or five?
This look so aggressive, i think my CLS just got moved to #2 as the sexiest 4 door coupe. Also i don't agree with most people on here that bad mouth the 7 series design and the 5 series. I love them to death, but that i guess is about opinion, each to his own.
Every BMW model is a different world. Besides, the mass production versions look more beautiful than the concepts. Hope this won't pass by CS either:-))))
does any car company do design better? amazing.
Scale it, as much a possible, to a size midway between the 3 and 5 series. Then take out the bangle-isms that have evolved from awkward to insipid. Put in a I6 diesel and watch it sell. With a little less flaming on the surfaces and a change to the rear fender line, it would be really nice.
Yeah, its a cool concept, but it does have some issues. CDN gave it tops marks as concept of the year 2007. I have some problems with the front grille, I find it to be too wide and it gives the front end a pancaked look. I do like the rear end design much better however. The interior is gorgeous though. Overall, its a fairly striking concept, and a good foundation for the next 7 series and 5 series (could use a bit of downsizing however).
I think it won't be BMW M3 Convertible.It can be M5.
A hit and miss design. I like certain aspect of the car. The side looks nice. Not sure about the front.... The back of the car looks athletic.
i love this concept. and im loving the color of it. if they will actually sell cars with that color that would be awesome!
The next 7 series will have hints of the Cs Concept i heard, with minor alterations for the headroom etc.. there was spy shots going around in australia, visit carpoint.com.au and search through the news.

i really like this concept. it doesn't look too plain as a matter of fact, it looks very aggressive. i think bmw is finally heading to the right step for sport and luxury.
