Our thanks go out to Chris, who sent us some snaps of a new Ford Taxi vehicle.  Chris spotted the Ford Transit Connect, dressed up like a New York City cab, as it was being photographed on the streets of Detroit.  Our wannabe spy photographer, who shot pictures from the third floor of a building off Woodward Avenue, believes this vehicle will be displayed at the New York International Auto Show beginning tomorrow.

New York has in the past been criticized for a lack of accessibility services provided to people with disabilities.  As the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission begins testing a new dispatch system for these clients, maybe they will encourage drivers to put the Ford Transit Connect into use.

The Ford Transit Connect, which is part of the American automakers product lineup in Europe, was introduced to Americans at the Chicago Auto Show last month.  With a 2.0 liter four banger, the Transit gets 19mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway.  Expected to roll on U.S. streets starting next year, Ford will market the Transit mainly for small businesses.

Thanks again for the pics, Chris!

Even though its not the most glamorous Ford vehicle coming from Europe, it's a start and hopefully more come here to the states. This is a great utility vehicle though, so many customization's can be easily made for numourous different type's of businesses.

That's just a start as you have commented... BTW, a diesel version with much, much better mpg will be sold in the near future too.

They're all going to be produced in Turkey. Maybe because of that they are so mean on fuel. 1 liter fuel is 3,3 TL(2.75 Dollar)in Turkey.

Most vehicles in Turkey are Diesel. They have better MPG's than most American cars.
