Aston Martin has announced that Magna Steyr will build the highly anticipated four-door Rapide in Graz, Austria. Sales of the DB9 and Vantage have pushed Aston Martin’s Gaydon plant to near full capacity, making the decision to produce elsewhere mandatory.

The decision to look for an outside company to assist in Rapide production was made shortly after the 2006 North American International Auto Show, where the concept made its debut. Several companies were under consideration, but Magna Steyr’s long experience with automotive partnerships and product excellence eventually won over the new shareholders. Magna Steyr currently builds several vehicles for other manufactures including the BMW X3 and the Mercedes G-Class.

Production of the Rapide will begin in late 2009, with an expected output of over 2000 cars annually.
