SEAT Bocanegra Concept Unveiled in Geneva

At the VW press event this evening, Spanish subsidiary, SEAT revealed their Bocanegra Concept sport coupe.  Slated as the next geneneration Ibiza, which debuts in 2009, the Bocanegra gets a dose of SEAT's trademark "dynamic line" body styling cues most noticeable in the Altea and Leon models, but also gets a little flavor from sister company, Audi, as well.  Looking at the overall vehicle it's not difficult to see some resemblance to the Audi A1 Metroprojekt concept which debuted in Tokyo last year, but despite this, the Bocanegra is eye-catching and very attractive.

Translated as "black mouth" the Bocanegra has a black front end.  But the interesting part about the front end is that its upper bumper section is covered by a semi-transparent Perspex acrylic sheet which extends up into the headlamps and acts as the headlamps outer lens.  The transition is seamless, and if you don't look closely, you won't notice it.  As a result, the effect is a tinted black front end which only allows the headlight units, with their eye-catching LEDs to peer out.

Starting with the next generation Ibiza, SEAT states that the front bumper design of this concept will be the face of its upcoming generation of models. This new product initiative which will extend over the next few years will includes a new B-segment sedan vehicle which will also makes its debut in 2009. Please read below for full details.

There you can see the original "Bocanegra", made by Seat from 1975 to 1979 http://www.mundoanuncio.com/img/2005/4/4/1112644460.jpg and by the way, what's wrong being a Seat? Have you ever seen WTCC races this year, where Seat won the first 2 races, in front of BMW?

if that's the new Ibiza everyone other than Mazda better go running to their drawing boards to figure out how to make their superminis have a chance against this.

This could well be the best Seat yet. Certainly cause for encouragement.

why compare with the scirocco?? This is a concept, scirocco is a production car. If this were to go into porduction I bet it would be vastly toned down.

It is a stunning car though!!

Got a MK5 GTI, and this is worthy of my next purchase. Simply looks fantastic: wipes the arse of that fugly Scirocco.

'If this were to go into porduction I bet it would be vastly toned down. It is a stunning car though!' Why? I don't see this as some over-the-top prototype. It looks totally realistic to me. The 19" rims on 35 profile tyres will change as few want a ride that uncomfortable, and seats would be an optional extra, but the rest - including the TFSI in production by VW - is all totally feasible.
