Early on the second press day at the Detroit Auto Show Lincoln removed the covers off the Lincoln MKT, a new concept vehicle continuing the design language already seen on the 2009 MKS.

The MKT has been designed to be a spacious vehicle with the seats and leg room mimicking those found in first class air cabins which even go as far as to offer the rear passengers foot rests which deploy from under the seats and allow rear passengers to fully recline. For those passengers who wish to take full advantage of this feature will be particularly pleased with the substantial C-pillar which creates the "aura of privacy".

When we move to the front seat area we get to the impressive new technology which features on the center panel. Solid state lighting technology projects to a contoured surface creating a 3D effect which until now has been limited to flat surfaces, see the press release below for the ins and outs of how it all works.

Power comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine which will be making its way into the MKS next year, but the Lincoln engineers have tuned it to run on E85 Ethanol gas boosting the power output of this V6 to an impressive 415 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

Production is fully expected after the numerous sightings of the MKT test vehicle recently and should arrive as a 2009 model later this year.

I'm happy to see an age-old Detroit styling flourish , that little bump interrupting the window sill line going towards the rear of the car. 'attaboy Detroit , make use of your venerable design signatures on your current styling exercises ! after all, this was how Michigan metal always displayed its automotive statement during those heady 70s when cars looked arrestingly handsome and elegant in equal measures.
