Scans surface from Japan

Where many automotive sites had their hopes up for an all new, next generation RX-8, the spotted mule was instead an RX-8 facelift which is scheduled for a Detroit debut in just over a week time at the North American International Auto Show.

Ten days after the surfacing of those spy photos a Japanese magazine's front cover surfaced on the internet clearly showing the updated RX-8, but the image itself was of very low quality. Yesterday however, Mazda mad Ahura of Mazda-Madness.nl found larger scans of the facelifted RX-8.

So now we know what the faelift will consist of, a new front fascia with adjusted grille, wider headlamps and the foglights have been placed higher while the LED rear lights have received a rounder look. The pictured RX-8 is an RS version with new 19 inch alloy wheels, Recaro seats, rear spoiler. Bilstein suspension which will make its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon tuner show on January 10.

I prefer the current one. That is one perfect car. The nose is a big change and I don't really like the bigger headlights, grille and big holes in the bumper with ugly turninglights.

This version also has much more pronounced side skirts and the dummy grills that trail the front wheel arches have been replaced for smaller items more like those BMW use on M models.

Looks OK. This car has struggled to compete in the UK.

AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY ohhh thank you for your soul lol what were they thinking when they made this car? seriously... people still buy this car, but if they made a TRUE successor to the RX-7... they'd get more sales

Exactly, they should revive the RX-7. That would be awesome.

after some years all they could do is give it a facelift. im disapointed because its time for a replacement. the taillights are from the S2000 and the front is ugly.

I'm a fan of the current version. This just looks like one of those cheap and tacky japanese cars with unecessary body kit.

Mazda ALWAYS does this. They take an absolutly brilliant design and make it look cheaper, more subtle and anonymous, and ultimately ruin the design; i.e. the last Mazda 6 facelift (the coming one is gorgeous however), and 3 facelift.

not an improvement in any way. How big is the engine? Could it fit in a Mazda2? now that would be a classic

Other than the slight difference in tail lights, it looks practically the same to me :/, not liking those rims though, or that spoiler.

Wait til you see the western version, those scans are likely to depict an optional body/performance kit Mugen style.
