2009 Subaru Forester Unveiled

It may be Christmas Eve but that's not stopping Scooby stealing the day, and despite the 'wrap' well and truly coming off several weeks prior, Subaru have today unveiled the first official photos of their new Forester Crossover SUV, debuting at next month's North American International Automobile Show.

The re-designed model builds upon an award-winning predecessor that put safety, versatility and reliability at the forefront of its design brief. And so continuing along the same vein for the 2009 model year, the new Forester too focuses heavily on safety technology, dynamic driving and high levels of both comfort and refinement.

The all-new model has been penned for a bolder, more SUV-oriented design, asserted not least by a greater ground clearance of 8.9 inches. Other dimensions over the outgoing model however remain taut, with length increasing only by three inches and wheelbase by 3.6 inches as per feedback on the model's compact nature. These increases translate to a more spacious cabin, continuing its predecessor's trend for a high visibility seating position and high cabin versatility and comfort.

Underpinning the Forester is an all-new platform boasting a high-strength body structure, double-wishbone rear suspension for a more refined ride and crisper handling, and permenant all-wheel-drive, while the right balance of ride, handling response and traction is achieved via Subaru's Dynamic Chassic Control Concept.

A choice of naturally aspirated or turbocharged 2.5-litre units will be on offer, both further developed for better low and mid-range responsiveness. Read on below for further tidbits in the press release.

Front-quarter and rear-quarter views are nice, as are full-on front and full-on rear views. Unfortunately, the extensive front overhang seriously detracts from the overall exterior design - and probably hampers front approach angle, as well.
