Facelifted Mercedes SL Caught On Dubai Photo Shoot

The facelifted Mercedes SL has been snapped during a shoot on location in Dubai, this exclusive photo, donated by a loyal WCF reader, revealing the new car's re-modelled nose and front end.

Mercedes' more pointed nose, as seen on the new C and CL-Classes, joins the SL range to provide a duly welcome sportier look. While with enough squinting and some tedious zooming, it appears that a redesigned headlamp cluster has also arrived, similar to that on the CLS and in the illustration we showed you just last week, with further spy shots confirming the update. It is unclear as to whether, like the C-Class, the grille will be offered in 'Elegance' or 'Sports' guises.

A sharper front skirt design complements the new nose, while flank vents forward and aft of the front wheels appear to feature, with the latter and large alloys suggesting this be an AMG version. Expect few changes at the rear bar new LED lamps, a revised underbelly bumper design and a minor exhaust pipe update.

Engines are likely to remain the same as the present SL, although rumours suggest a 354 hp replacement engine for the SL350. The SL will surface at Geneva and hit the market at the end of 2008, ahead of its next-generation replacement in 2012.

Those are some hot rims. Wonder if that AMG packaging is going to be standard, Mercedes has been doing more of that kind of stuff very recently.

As I said before. the BMW 6 Series is nicer.

the BMW has the look that i would pushout if i ate 4 bean and cheese with sourcream burrito's and a cheddar quesidila with a choclate shake to wash it down with, it has a push me pull me design like the lexus sc430 both of which I would never buy, and yet Idont mean to hurt your feeling.

the 6 series looks like a fat ugly chick that is dieing for attention. The SL is in a whole other league. no comparison. the thought of comparing the two makes me laugh.

hahahaha.

I've driven a current model SL55AMG and found it to be a very impressive, if a little cold, car. Its steering might not be that sharp or quick, but it's reliable and comparatively easy to maintain. It's price is a bit steep for me, so I'm now considering an SLK.

The SLK is a great car, I have one and love it but keep in mind these things, If you get the amg package the wheels are staggered and cant be rotated thus you will be replacing tires every 16 months depending on how you drive and the forget about a get away romantic weekend unless all you bring is a thong and condoms, the trunks are very small, I have always said my SLK is good for me, another person and a opinion. But otherwise its been a great member to my family just want the new SL 55 or 63 asit were

Im interested to see the interior... will it follow the same design language as the S 550 you think?

I realize the quality isn't all that spectacular.. but am I the only one who saw the grill and thought "Cadillac XLR"?

benzboy
December 7, 2007 11:02:13 PM

you saw Cadillac XLR, really can I have some of your meds or have you fallen off your meds.

lilmissveevee
December 8, 2007 1:30:05 AM

Meds? Right. Big grill/pointed nose and headlamps with seemingly angular quality, squared off fog lamp outlets, rectangular sub-bumper air intake.

I want to see official clear photo's of the car then we will have something to talk about until then...
