Sports car revival in Japan

Whether you like the looks or not, the Nissan GT-R is hot, and the Japanese flock to Nissan dealers to get their hands on one. Initial orders have already exceeded expectations by a factor of 11, totalling at 2,282! Nissan aims to sell about 200 GT-R's per month with deliveries starting early December.

The extreme interest in the GT-R has also spiked the sales of the Nissan Skyline coupe (went on sale early October) with 2,400 orders in the books while the initial projection was 200 units per month.

"It is encouraging to see that Japanese customers have been inspired by these new sports cars from Nissan," said Kaji Yoshimitsu, Marketing Director for Skyline and GT-R. 'Inspiration' is only going to increase when the GT-R wins some Super GT races.

The price is not the problem, I'd pay double if I can get my hands on one. Your buying a car with history and people who know cars knows that owning a GTR old or new is an honour.

rofl you guys simply are puppets of the Nissan marketing-direction

The same can be said about some of the overpriced germans that some people are willing to pay for the badge probably like yourself! Marketing genius isn't it? Also kind of ironic that Mercedes is pure genius when it comes to marketing that over the years their cars were plagued with reliability/electrical problems, build quality, and yet people are willing to pay for them. Unbelievable stupidity.

A piece of history, great car.

Im with Harajoshi on this one. Nissan has no history. compare nissan's first car to Mercedes-Benz's first car. So much copied technology. The Japanese will always make better cars than american cars but inferior to german cars. always has been always wil be.

MBAMG

what do you mean so much copied technology. The last time i checked, Japanese cars were the pioneers of innovation, not German cars. There are many aspects of Japanese cars that make them much better than German cars, for example reliablility and service.

Kind of ironic that your name is hondaboy, isn't it? Also if you knew anything about cars you would KNOW that Nissan has a rich history in racing and building sports cars especially the Skyline. Go post somewhere else because you're an idiot!

Nissan has history, no doubt, for example with the Datsun sportscar, especially with the one designed by Graf Albrecht von Goertz (scheiss Verräter)

Why are you comparing the GT-R to MBs? This is a sportscar. It's not built as impacable as Benz,it's no where near as luxury, it's loud and noisy but it dances on the track. I bet you this car can beat anything in Benz or Bimmer's line up (except the SLR which is seven times the price), then you'll ask me why am I comparing them. Silversedanman, i'ms ick of your s h i t. I'm sure most people on here love Benzs and Bimmers, they're great car. But they don't need you defending them.

Don't you know by now? hondaboy22 a.k.a. silversedanman has a huge gay boner for Germany. There's no use in arguing with a half-wit.

indeed, never argue with an idiot, you'll lower yourself to his level and he'll have you beat on experience!

Of course this is an inferior car which will leave little to no mark in history unlike the likes of the M3 which is priced in a similar range. Of course the pioneers of technology in cars is germany with the patent for the motor driven vehicle, air bags, traction control, ABS, emergency tensioning devices, crumple zones, roll over sensor, independent suspension, fuel injection, panorama roof, smartkey, etc....

hondaboy22
November 22, 2007 4:09:05 AM

ofcourse This nissan is inferior as an overall driving machine to german cars of the same price.

You name one german car under $100,000 that can run with this car. Dig you head out of your A hole and look around. you really neeed to get out more.

I bet you anything hondaboy/silversedanman/German CEOs' bitch is just another 12 year old admiring German cars but can never afford one.

hondaboy22, you are one of the stupidest people ive ever seen. How can you say such retarded things when this article is about how successful Nissan's GT-R was. Nobody wants you here, everyone thinks you're retarded and you're only making a fool out of youself by trying to convince others about how you think you know everything about cars. [edit]

This car is sick, when the dealers start taking orders in europe and NA watch the #s go up. i predict 25,000 units by Jan 2009. German cars that can keep up with this for the price even american cars like the vette and viper cant touch this car on the track for the price, nvm quality and reliability. The germans have 1 hope, the M3 and if they somehow release a turbo Caymen porsche. Otherwise this car is next to the god of sportscars(exculding supercars) on the track the Porsche GT2.

Joe_Limon
November 22, 2007 7:47:39 AM

haha awesome. First of all, thats a used car... to buy one new you would have to double the price of the nissan $136,900. And you also neglected the fact that the skyline is on par with Carrera GT nurburgring track times. As to technology and whatnot. Nissan's are reliable cars, the skyline is a high tech car with computer gizmos controlling every aspect of the car. The previous generation of skylines were known for their high tech computer engine monitoring systems and this generation is no different.

michael.wcf..I take the liberty to speak for most guys on this forum. NOBODY likes attacking anyone on personal basis on this site. Most people here are car-crazy but there're a few that are actaully racists and prejedice. Some of the comments we made here (that you may have read recently) are only to let them know that we won't tolorate that kinda prejedism here. Believe me, it goes back awhile. Most people here love to just talk cars..believe me. This is a great site.

A guy says jap cars are no good, but calls himself hondaboy, tsk. Anyway the forums and the coverage speak for themselves, this gtr is sick (in a great way), just think back a few months ago, did the m3 get this sort of coverage, discussion and hype. I'm in Jamaica and I know a couple Godzilla's are coming here soon.

Reading some comments of some ILLETERAL readers just freaks me out!! HOE COME DO YOU COMPARE CARS?!?!?!?! This car is one of the best cars that will ever exist. Its a piece of History's experience and latest technology; first, if you want to compare the car with other cars then stop being RACISTS!!! If you will judge the car like that then it wont work!! This car is Japanese, and its beats MANY german cars, even italians. This car is far away better than the SLR, and it proved by CRUSHING it in the nurburgring. HOW COME A $75k BEAT A 500?!?! THATS THE CLUE AND FACT!! GT-R cannot be compared with the GT2. GT-R is a "Grand Tourer", means that its a super car with daily-friendly behaviour, as well as being luxurious... Some ppl say that the only way to get rid of this is by either M3, or the funny Cayman Turbo!!! If this car HAS ALREADY BEATEN the 911 Turbo, then what will those baby montsters do?!?!?

NitrousOxide
November 29, 2007 1:18:15 AM

HOW* ... I bet, and Im sure about this, if this car was created by a german car maker, the price WOULD NEVER be less than $180,000; "Marketing" has NOTHING to do with this car. The R34 has ALREADY done the marketing for it. the R34 is till this moment, ONE OF THE BEST SUPERCARS in the world.. This car has even beaten the mighty Veyron in the Nurburgring by 2 seconds.. It has simply eaten the Veyron, 911 turbo, and you MARVELOUS SLR by 2 seconds!!! )0.001 part of a second makes a big difference, what do you people say about 2 seconds... THE THING THAT SHOCKS ME THE MOST IS THE PRICE OF THIS CAR!!! YOU PEOPLE WILL NEVER EVER FIND A CAR THAT WILL BEAT THIS CAR FOR IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE, AND I EVEN DOUBT IT FOR TWICE THE PRICE.. SO NO MATTER WHAT YOU RACISTS SAY.. KILL YOUR SELVES ('_')..
