Latest Rendition of Future McLaren Supercar
With rumors circulating about a successor to the McLaren F1, we bring you a new artist's rendition of a new mid-engine McLaren. The word on the street is that McLaren is building a new, two-seater workhorse with a V8 engine, scheduled for 2010 production.
The original McLaren F1 supercar took to the streets back in 1993, to forever be drooled over by legions of car fans everywhere. Their new car, which may have spawned from prior development work from their now defunct partnership with Mercedes-Benz, is supposed to be of a smaller and more lightweight construction.
Memories of the McLaren F1 V12 abound: it went 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, topped out around 386 km/h (240 mph), and reighned supreme above all supercars for over a decade. It seems McLaren would need some sort of miracle, or divine inspiration, to build such a legend a second time around.
Any new McLaren would be in competition with the Bugatti Veyron, and potential Ferrari Enzo and Lamborghini Murcielago replacements. Hopefully, this new McLaren will have the driver-in-the-middle three-seat design the F1 is known for. WCF will of course keep watch over this story, and bring you any news on the new McLaren as it arises.

in 95`McLaren LM got 680bhp and the only thing who stop it from 400km/h was the lenght of the track, by this days RUF CTR3 have 700bhp.....I really hope this new McLaren blast it got a decent engine and not a mercedes one...i also spect the seat in the center
Why do they need to replanc the McLaren F1? I think Mercedes is putting McLaren up to do this and, if that this car does go through, it'll have Mercedes written all over it, like with the SLR. The F1 simply cannot be replaced, or bettered for that matter, if Mercedes has anything to do with it.
carolinaluvr101: That would be a logical thought... if only Mercedes was still working with McLaren.
Wolkswagen is spending 6.500.000 euros on every Veyron to produce it and than is selling it on 1.2 mil. They only wanted to prove that this performance is achievable. I really don't think the McLaren can beat the Veyron. It's simply to expensive. This is why these kind of brands can't make it on their own.
look's like mclaren teamed up with audi instead of mercedes-benz.i hope they show the top speed of the car soon so we can see if it is as the Bugatti veyron or even the Aero tt which would be even better cause the inside of the aero tt is rotten.
Mercedes will only supply the engine to McLaren for the car and will have zero input into the car's design (except maybe in the area of safety). The car will be badged as a McLaren, not a Mercedes-McLaren.
Furthermore, the new car is about usable performance on roads. Just bear in mind that the Ferrari F430 Scuderia is faster than the Enzo around Fiorano. McLaren is no longer gunning for outright top speed honours.
Wunderkind..I agree with you. Just like Gordon Murphy said, "it's all about the package." Though McLaren has its work cutout. The McLaren F1 is still regarded as the best ever and it would be hard to top that. It's not about topspeed anymore. A Veyron can never compete with a Porche GT or an Enzo on track, though it got that awesome straightline speed.

Is it just me or does the body line resemble a mixture of a ferrari F430 and a Audi R8. more noticably the rear line of a R8
