Press Release

Volvo presents its new S40 and V50 models, introducing new features aimed at younger buyers, with the new S40 moving closer to the Volvo S80 and the new V50 closer to the Volvo V70. One new feature is the T5 engine, which gets a performance hike of 10 horsepower, giving an output of 230 hp. Five other petrol engine versions are available, plus a bio-ethanol Flexifuel variant, as well as three diesel versions. The new S40 and V50 also have new safety features, like the Active Bi-Xenon headlamps that swivel the light beam in the direction of the road when the driver turns the steering wheel or the EBL brake lights (Emergency Brake Lights) function, which causes them to flash rapidly when the driver stamps hard on the brake pedal, in order to effectively alert traffic behind the car.
