New VVEL and LDP Technologies
New technologies designed to lower emissions and prevent lane departure
Press Release
Nissan has unveiled a new engine technology, Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL), designed to lower carbon-dioxide emissions by up to 10 percent. Nissan officials say VVEL-equipped engines are more fuel-efficient, offer a better acceleration response and provide more power. The VVEL engine technology is part of the Nissan Green Program 2010. Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, will introduce an advanced Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system in New York. The LDP system uses a small camera behind the windscreen to detect lane markers and calculate the vehicle's position relative to the lane markers. An audible buzzer and visual display alert the driver when they have drifted too far (without a pending lane change with a turn signal) and the LDP system gently corrects by controlling the brake pressure in each individual wheel. This new technology will be featured in the Infiniti EX Concept car at the New York International Auto Show.Related Content
