The 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport (or 110S) was the first car to feature Mazda's rotary engine. Since then the rotary engine found its way into several cars, most notably the Familia Rotary Coupe (known as the R100 overseas), the Savanna (RX-3), RX-7, and Eunos Cosmo.

Today Mazda releases the Mazda RX-8 Rotary Engine 40th Anniversary Edition, based on the RX-8 Type S and is limited to 200 units. It comes in a unique Marble White body color, whereas the interior has been designed to resemble the Cosmo Sport.

Special equipment includes exclusive Bilstein dampers and a urethane foam-filled front suspension cross member for a stiffer ride. The special edition is available as a manual or automatic and costs 1,350,000 yen. Available in Japan only.
