Following a series of teasers and spy shots, Ford has finally taken the wraps off the 2015 Ranger facelift.

We have already seen the design in previous stories so we shall focus on mechanical changes which start under the hood where there's an updated 5-cylinder 3.2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine benefiting from a revised exhaust gas recirculation system which has cut fuel consumption by 18%. The engine's output stands at 200 HP (147 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque sent through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

There's also a 4-cylinder 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi developing 160 HP (118 kW) and 385 Nm (284 lb-ft) while a high efficiency version will be offered in select markets with 130 HP (96 kW) granting a boosted fuel economy of 22%. The 2015 Ranger facelift is also going to be available with a 2.5-liter Duratec gasoline engine generating 166 HP (122 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft).

4x4 models are getting an electronically-controlled transfer case and low-range 4x4 gearing and enable the facelifted Ranger to provide a towing capacity of 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs). Ford says they have revised the suspension to achieve greater comfort and handling while the electric power-assisted steering should provide more precise steering.

The 2015 Ranger will be available with Ford's SYNC 2 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display along with a plethora of safety & assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping alert, lane keeping aid, front & rear park assist, forward alert, hill launch assist, hill descent control, adaptive load control and emergency brake assistance.

Scheduled to go on sale in the third quarter of the year, the 2015 Ford Ranger will be manufactured in Thailand, South Africa and Argentina.
