1962 Ferrari 250 GTO listed in Germany for 47.6M EUR faces replica accusations from Ferrari expert

Could be a marketing trick

An early example of the Ferrari 250 GTO is listed on mobile.de but there are enough reasons to believe it's only a replica.

The seller is asking 47.6M EUR (63.7M USD or 37.8M GBP) but Ferrari historian and expert Marcel Massini warns us the car is just a replica. In an interview to CNBC, he said he managed to track down all 39 units built by Ferrari between 1962 and 1964 and this isn't one of them.

His exact words were "I can tell you that with 100 percent certainty" and „"I know where all of these cars are today. And this is not one of the original GTOs." Suffice it to say, he's very confident the car listed on mobile.de is a replica.

It could turn out to be a marketing trick because we checked the listing and it says the ad is sponsored by a company selling vitamin pills and the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO buyer will actually get one year's worth of vitamins. Chances are there's not even a replica and this is just a form of spam.

I hate stories like this (classic cars being sold for insane amounts of money). I don't understand why people want to keep these in such pristine condition, what's the point of the car other than to go fast and handle well? Drive the thing, if something goes wrong restore it. The car does no good to look at, if it's not also being enjoyed.

For some of us 63 million is enough to retire our entire families and then some, for others its a car in their garage..

Where in my comment did you assume I was complaining? Comments are just that a comment nothing more, deal with it.

That kind of comparison is usually followed by some kind of commentary on how unfair life is. You know this, I know this. It might not have been your intention but it was the tone of your words. Choose them carefully.

Unfortunately 'tone' is not something you can pick up on through words typed, it is something that varies the sound of the words as they come out of your mouth. Deal with it.
