The Ford F-150 Raptor proved to be an instant hit when it was launched several years ago, so it comes as little surprise that Chevrolet and Ram have been considering a competitor. However, a new report is indicating Chevrolet's Raptor rival will be based on the Colorado instead of the Silverado.
According to GM Authority sources, Chevrolet is working an "aggressive off-road variant" of their latest pick up. Unfortunately, there's no word on specifics but the publication says General Motors decided to base their Raptor competitor on the Colorado because is lighter than the Silverado.
If the report pan out, the model could be launched in 2015 or 2016 as the Colorado ZR2. It would presumably be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that develops 305 bhp (227 kW) and 269 lb-ft (364 Nm) of torque.
