Next-gen Volkswagen Jetta to get sedan, wagon, Alltrack and coupe versions - report
Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe concept

Due late 2016

The next generation of the Volkswagen Jetta will allegedly be offered in no less than four body styles.

According to British magazine CAR, the all-new Jetta lineup will grow and is expected to include a sedan, estate and a rugged Alltrack derivative. Apparently these three body styles have already been approved but a source close to Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsburg says the company is currently considering a fourth member.

While a production version of the New Midsize Coupe would be the most plausible solution, apparently Volkswagen has other plans as they are reportedly planning a two-door Jetta coupe. It will be a more affordable alternative to the Sirocco which will become more upscale with the next generation set for a 2018 release.

The next Jetta will ride on the MQB platform and will be larger than the current model, with some of the added length going into the wheelbase in order to provide additional rear legroom. Power will come mostly from small turbocharged gasoline engines but there will also be a plug-in hybrid variant. Despite growing in size, the new model will be more economical as a result of a lighter body and thriftier engines.

Since the report talks about a 2017 model year, expect the new Volkswagen Jetta to come out in the second half of 2016.

Aygo
I assume two of those variants (the wagon and Alltrack) will be sold under the Golf moniker, in Europe anyway.
