CEO hints at a new sedan with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine

AMG CEO Tobias Moers has revealed the company's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine could be fitted to models besides the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG.

Speaking to What Car, Moers said "It’s probably something we should consider. We haven’t decided anything but in my own mind, as an engineer, I think it could be an interesting solution to have a high-powered four-cylinder petrol engine in a car that’s not a compact - maybe even a saloon." The executive went on to say the four-cylinder engine would make sense in markets where cars are taxed based on their engine displacement.

While nothing is official, speculation suggests certain AMG models could be offered with both a four-cylinder engine and a traditional V8. Interestingly, there have already been rumors about a C450 AMG Sport but that model is slated to use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 372 PS (274 kW) instead of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 360 HP (265 kW).

Besides talking about the four-cylinder engine, Moers downplayed the possibility of a diesel-powered AMG model but hinted "hybrid technology is something that we can start looking at."
