Best Formula 1 sounds over the years – V6, V8, V10 and V12 [video]

Don't you miss the old V10s?

Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is still trying to come up with a way to make the turbo V6s louder. This video is giving us a glimpse of the best sounds of F1’s engines in the recent past, proving Bernie is not wrong at all.

The flashback starts from the early V6 turbo to the V10, V12 up to the most recent V8. Compare these screaming engines with this year’s V6 units and tell us if Sebastian Vettel is right to say they sound like "shit"?

The huge mistake was to allow this to happen! They will never go back to the V12 or the V10 with all the noise of the world ending due to fossil fuels. Now they have to figure out how to make it sound better? This just sucks!

I think that there is idea to get best sound. V10 and V8 was highest revving. So, take V12 with small displacement, for example 2.5 L ofcourse N/A and 20000rpm limit (with bigger numer of engines for season - one race one engine). I think in that way we can get best of all sounds and true F1 spirit. And there will be no problems with "fuel sensors" because there engines will get their maximum under 1000hp.

the only reason the v10's sounded awesome is because they had no RPM limit, back in the v12 era they couldn't develop high RPM engines and the v8 and v6 RPM are capped way to low. I like the turbo wistle though!

Definitely the V10 era is my favourite. Not only did it sound most beautiful but the cars were the best in performance. Those days, drivers really need to handle big g-loads, which explains their necks being thick as tree trunk.

The V12 engines sung. The V10 made a lot of flat noise. The V8 stank. The new turbo V6 has some nice whistles.

V10 is the best. But the BRM 16-cyl beats it.
