Volkswagen has reaffirmed their commitment to offer the 2015 Beetle, Golf, Passat and Jetta with a new EA288 diesel engine in the United States.

Set to arrive in the second half of 2014, the engine will replace the 2.0-liter TDI that is currently used in various Audi and Volkswagen models. Detailed performance specifications were not released but the engine will produce 150 bhp (111 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque in Volkswagen models.

According to Douglas Skorupski, Volkswagen of America Manager of Technical Strategy, “With the introduction of the new EA288 engine, we are excited that our family of TDI Clean Diesel vehicles is continuing to improve and will be even cleaner and more fuel efficient and powerful. We’re excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of Clean Diesel engines.”
