A McLaren spokesperson has told Piston Heads production of the 12C has been interrupted in order to free up capacity for the newly introduced 650C.
McLaren recently unveiled in Geneva its new mid-range 650S model in both Coupe and Spider versions and it seems the duo has already proven to be more popular than the entry-level 12C. The reason we are saying this is because McLaren has apparently stopped making the 12C Coupe & Spider to meet a strong demand for the 650C.
Moreover, McLaren estimates the new model will account for most of the company's sales, even though its 195,000 GBP starting price makes it 20,000 GBP more expensive than the 12C. Chances are that sooner or later the British marque will pull the plug on the 12C taking into consideration they are working on a new model so they will need the extra production capacity.
Speaking of which, Piston Heads has also managed to find out from McLaren insiders the upcoming entry-level model (codenamed P13) will cost somewhere in the region of 130,000 GBP once it goes on sale next year.
