Looks bland

Official images of the 2015 Subaru Legacy have hit the web prior to a public debut programmed for later this month at the Chicago Auto Show.

Subaru tried to fool us with the gorgeous Legacy concept in November last year in Los Angeles but in the end the production-ready sixth-generation of the model looks bland and inexpressive. Subaru has recently developed a bad habit of coming up with very attractive concepts which fail to carry over to the production versions.

The front of the car seems to be inspired from the 2015 WRX especially in the headlight design, while the prominent grille, rounder bumpers and a more raked roofline provide the vehicle with a slightly more dynamic look but the design doesn’t even come close to that of the aforementioned concept.

At the back there are slimmer taillights and a spoiler lip while the cabin has been overhauled and packs a new center console as well as a redesigned instrument cluster. Also updated is the steering wheel design and there seem to be more premium materials providing a more upscale feel.

Subaru will fully reveal the 2015 Legacy on Thursday.

Oh my... Subie used to make gorgeous cars, anyone remembers 1991 Alcyone SVX, 1992 Impreza (aka GC8), 2003 Legacy (BL), 2003 R1/R2, 2008 Forester (SH) ?

I can't say it's not disappointing, but I'd still look at it for a purchase. Why they couldn't keep some more of the concept's design cues? - I'd like to hear the executives' mindset on why they defeated an interesting style.

Week ago carbuzz reported that Subaru said that they wanted their production version of legacy to look close to the concept and capture sportiness and aggressiveness of it. I didn't know that their interpretation of sportiness and aggressiveness is a Toyota Camry. Good lord Subaru, what's happening to you?!

So, okay, it doesn't break new stylistic ground compared to other mid-sizers from Japan and Korea. But you have to admit, the new Legacy won't be the rolling eyesore that the current model is. It's just another example of how Subaru styling swings from bland to homely and back to bland.

In the front you I can see a ford taurus, the rear reminds me of KIA optima. I like the interior though. I hope to see a WRX STi version :D

When I first came across the picture, I seriously thought it was a 2007 Toyota Camry, and the article was a reference to another recall. Upon finding out that this, this, is the new Subaru Legacy, disappointment frankly is an understatement. This car is every bit of bland, & I would even dare say Subaru is arrogant for producing such a car. You show us a nice concept, then you turn around and make this? And then probably think it will still sell well. That is just ridiculous. Not even the Subaru loyal would buy this...

It was on my short list. It was one of the upcoming cars that I am waiting on before I make a purchase. I don't even need a test drive, now. Fail, Subaru, fail. You were a straightaway behind with the old one. Now you are down a lap.

Car companies do this all the time, they show us some extremely great looking concepts and then play it safe with watered down mass market boredom on wheels. Are they making new cars, or just new versions of the same old thing.
