BMW M235i Racing shown in action for the first time [video]

Costs 59,500 EUR (+VAT)

BMW has released a video with a lightly camouflaged track-only M235i Racing which will be part of the firm's race-spec offerings.

The Bavarian entry-level racing car begins at 59,500 EUR (+VAT) and is eligible for the VLN Endurance Championship and Nürburgring 24 Hours. Today we get the chance to see it in a more revealing posture following the render released about three weeks ago.

Performance numbers have not been released but we do know the M235i Racing is powered by a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine rated at 333 HP (245 kW). It comes with a wide array of goodies such as carbon fiber mirror caps, rear diffuser and new front and rear spoilers part of the BMW M Performance offerings. On top of that, it also gets a mechanical limited slip differential derived from the M235i Coupe.

For safety purposes, the racecar has been equipped with a FIA-compliant safety cell and has several driving aids like traction control, ABS and DSC.

Do we read this is an unofficial successor to the 1M? The specs are the same, platform likely very similar, and overall philosophy of this car is nearly identical. Not that it's a bad thing, since they don't make the 1M anymore. Is this street legal?
