Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series laps the Nurburgring in 7:25.67 [video]

Faster than the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C

The Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series was introduced a year ago but the company has just released footage of the model on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

As you can see, the supercar laps the green hell in 7:25.67 which is a tad slower than the Ferrari Enzo but faster than the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C.

As a refresher, the SLS AMG Black Series has an aerodynamic body kit, an AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension, a locking rear differential and a 6.2-liter V8 engine that develops 622 bhp (464 kW) and 468 lb-ft (634 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission which enables the 3,417 lb (1,550 kg) coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

Amazing time for a Mercedes..taking in consideration the philosophy and the hierarchy of values.

Still, much slower than the Nissan GT-R (on the same list), and only 10 seconds faster than the 56.000 USD Camaro Z/28!!

I will never get myself used with this stupidity.. The GT-R is faster than a lot of cars.. the Lamborghini Aventador for example.. and that doesn't mean that the lambo should cost lesser or as much as the GT-R simply because that car is faster on Nurburg.. You never compare 15 g of silver with 15 g of gold.. different values, different properties/quality. You can compare that Camaro with a Challenger or a Mustang... but never with an SLS or an Aventador.. You americans never cease to make me laugh.

I can understand your anger, but as long as they publish the laptimes aspecially at the ring, this is exactly what they are looking for, to be compared. You wouldnt react the same if the specific vehicle was at the top of the list. Even so, 458+GT-R are still faster...

The Donkervoort D8 something.. is faster than all of those.. but I wouldn't chose it over most of the others under it. I simply do not consider Nurburgring the "Golden Standard" for cars.. There are many aspects forgotten by most.. like pleasure of driving offered by a car, reliability through time, daily comfort outside the track.. and so on and so forth. There are many car manufacturers that change the settings/tires of the stock model..making the time on that list irelevant for the regular customer..

Take the MClaren P1 for example they got a 7.04 time with the car there but they haven't made it official because the 918 Spyder already did a 6.57.. They surely aren't satisfied with that and they will not make it valid until the time will hit a desired margin under the 918.. Time at which Porsche will do another lap with modified settings/tires to beat P1's time.. A trap for the fools.. I may be one of the few that admires Ferrari's position in all of this until now.. They've already sold out.. and they have nothing to prove to anybody.. The only thing they have to worry about is... their customers feedback on La-nonsense..

Still in High School I bet. You forgot a couple of things, The GTR has no real heritige and will forever be an ugly car compared to the SLS

Brutal...just plain brutal. I'd swear I saw 1.8 lateral g's on the meter. And talk about car control! I can't believe the driver pulled this lap with the stock belts and seat. Kudos!!

I have driven a 'standard' SLS and a few years ago was lucky enough to be a passenger in a Carrera GT with a skilled driver: they are both very quick...and very different. The Carrera GT really made the driver work hard: it was was brilliant, blindingly quick, but it was a high strung animal - it demanded you really pay attention. I tried to drive it a bit...stalled it twice, spun it once. The SLS? It is just brilliant within a more "normal" range. It makes average drivers seem like heroes. Very quick too, a sharp drive, but still relatively forgiving, comfortable, lots of electronics to keep you safe, and the whole thing is optimized to give you fun but prevent you from being stupid. Not so the Carrera GT. In the GT, if you are superb driver, you will be hard pressed to find a more satisfying car. If you are an average driver trying to be better than you are, the Porsche will - maybe quite literally - decapitate you first mistake you make. The SLS may spank you a bit, but then put you right back on your feet and continue...

So Mercedes' flagship supercar is a fraction faster than the time a Porsche Carrera GT did close to a decade ago on original dated tyres. Next.

Not really an apples-to-apples comparison. The SLS isn't in the same league as the Carrera GT was - that's like comparing it to a 918 Spyder. The SLS Black is however 4-5s faster than a normal SLS and 14-15 seconds faster than the McLaren-Mercedes SLR, which is a better point of comparison.

Wow I was not aware the SLS was faster than the SLR, I always thought it would be maybe in a straight line but around a circuit there would be no way the normal SLS would be faster than the SLR. That's cool.

The fact that a BLACK SERIES version just about manages to match a stock Nissan GTR (to find a more suitable comparison) perhaps better proves my point. Good time, sure, but is that the best Mercedes can do? Not enough imo. Nismo GTR will really embarrass it.

The GTR is all about numbers. The car is built to post amazing figures, but as a result, it has to compromise in other areas. All the electronics make you feel detached. Also, Try to push it hard for more than one lap and watch the car go on its knees. There is always a payoff. I respect the car for what it is, but dont expect miracles. The black series is the opposite. Its quite simple, straight forward and brutal. It will not be able to break records, but it will take much more punishment. This actually makes way more suitable as a track car. It is a completely different concept. Your comment is not really on point.
