Never been raced

Commodore tuner Walkinshaw is selling a couple of VE Clubsport-based racers each priced at 159,000 AUD.

The cars were developed in collaboration with three-time Bathurst champion Garth Tander to gauge interest for a brand new racing series in India. They look pretty much like V8 Supercars and are not road-legal as they were developed exclusively for the track.

Under the hood there is a heavily modified V8 6.2-liter LS3 engine developing 544 HP (400 kW) coupled to a 6-speed Quaife sequential gearbox, a twin-plate nine-inch ceramic clutch and a limited-slip differential. Braking system consists of 365mm front discs with AP Racing calipers and 350mm rear discs teamed with HSV calipers.

The cars have never been raced and during testing at Winton Raceway they were only about nine seconds slower than a real V8 Supercar.

9 seconds is an eternity in racing.

Correct, but a real V8 Supercar is roughly eight times more expensive.

A V8 Supercar weighs less, has more power, has a purpose built spaceframe chassis and teams have the benefit of data to track in the cars around a track like Winton which is very technical and a hard track to set up for.
