Porsche 918 Spyder has the potential to be even quicker on the 'Ring [video]

According to Marc Lieb

It seems the Porsche 918 Spyder can lap the Nürburgring even faster than the already record-breaking 6:57.

It was Marc Lieb who proved the Porsche 918 Spyder has what it takes to become the quickest (worldwide legal) car to lap the Nürburgring, achieving an impressive time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds which makes it the first car to do a sub-seven time.

Marc Lieb, a four-time Nürburgring 24-hour race winner, hinted in an interview to Drive TV there's room for improvement to lower the time even further. There are some reports indicating a 918 Spyder fitted with racing slicks lapped the famous German circuit in just 6 minutes and 48 seconds.

We are now waiting for a response from McLaren and Ferrari with their latest supercars to see which one is the king around the 'Ring.

What really amazes me here is that Porsche has created a car that blows away all others around the Nurburgring...and yet it uses less fuel than a Prius - and that is not a false claim. In the real world of city driving and some highway, in most situations, you will get amazing fuel economy. I still think people are not fully appreciative of this: Porsche has just done something earth shattering.

Completely correct. This car combines next-gen fuel saving technology, infotainment technology with hyper-car performance. In contrast to McLaren and Ferrari this technology is not only focused on performance and therefore will make its way down to cheaper cars in the future. A first example of this tech-transfer is demonstrated by the Panamera Hybride facelift, which really showed impressive numbers in reviews from different car magazines. They called it the new hybride-king, making the Lexus LS looking outdated...

Correct. The 918 is a revolution. The emissions and consumption on regular roads is less than a prius. Drive onto a track and you have the fastest road legal car. The British and Italians do not have an answer for even one of these measurables, let alone all three.

This is a reply to air_cooled. "The British and Italians do not have an answer for even one of these measurables, let alone all three." Let Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani, and Koenigsegg test their latest supercars on the Nurburgring... at least 3 out of those 4 cars will beat the 918 in lap time.
