A little bit of everything

Carlsson has introduced their new tuning program for the 2014 Mercedes S-Class.

Starting with the exterior, the model can be equipped with a new front bumper that has larger air intakes and an "RS" front lip spoiler. Moving further back, we can see revised side skirts, a new rear valance and a distinctive four-tailpipe sports exhaust system. Customers can also order a variety of wheels in sizes ranging from 19- to 21-inches.

The cabin can be outfitted with the usual wood and leather refinements as well as a rear seat entertainment system, a Wi-Fi hotspot and an "audiophile grade" REVOX sound system. Other options include sheepskin floor mats, a refrigerator and a humidor.

Under the hood, the 4.7-liter V8 engine can be tuned to produce 610 HP (448 kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 154 HP (113 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft). Likewise, the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 in the S63 AMG can be massaged to develop 780 HP (573 kW) and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 195 HP (143 kW) and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft).

The Mercedes-Benz S-class has always been synonymous with the pinnacle of luxury motoring. The new S-Class takes this a step further, and Carlsson is proud to debut its tuning programme for the new Mercedes flagship limousine at the Frankfurt IAA 2013.

True to its company motto "Go your own way," Carlsson presents its ideas for further refining and personalizing the new S-Class, with modifications ranging from aerodynamic components to light-alloy wheels and bespoke interior trim.

The aerodynamic styling kit starts with a new front apron featuring larger air intakes that visually support the new, more three-dimensional Mercedes grille. The distinctive Carlsson RS lip below the centre intake gives the car a lower and more assertive look.

Deeper, sculpted side skirts underline the standard cars dynamic swage line. They also draw your eyes to the new rear valance where the a distinctive trapezoid cut-out on each side marks the outlets for the sports exhaust.

Three different alloy wheel designs with a choice of finishes are on offer. These are the sporting Carlsson 1/10, the classic Carlsson 1/16 RS, and the modern Carlsson 1/5. All three designs are available in 19, 20 and 21-inch diameters.
The Carlsson C-tronic suspension lowering kit for vehicles with Airmatic and Magic Body Control will be available shortly.

The engine tuning packages offer considerable power and torque increases. The S500 bi-turbo V8 (standard 456hp and 700Nm) is ramped up to 610hp and 900Nm, while the bi-turbo V8 in the S63 AMG (standard 585hp and 900Nm) sees its output rise to a supercar crushing 780hp, accompanied by 1,050Nm of torque.

A Carlsson specialty is bespoke interiors to a client’s individual wishes in the best haute couture tradition. Apart from craftsman sewn fine leather and wood, state-of-the-art high-tech infotainment equipment such as HD TV screens, an audiophile grade REVOX Sound system, and business tools like a Wi-Fi hotspot can be seamlessly integrated into the plush cabin. Even a fridge or a Humidor can be fitted to make you feel more at home.

A visit to Carlsson’s specialist trim department reveals more than just a choice of different grades of fine leather. You can also choose to have complimentary or contrasting seams, outline stitching and piping, as well as a combination of leather and Alcantara. Putting your personal or family crest on the headrests or wood inlays in not an uncommon request.

Carlsson are also used to fitting made to measure Merino Sheepskin floor mats to customer cars. Colour matched to the vehicle’s interior these mats are available either as a set of four, or for the front foot wells only.

Visitors to his year’s Frankfurt IAA International Motor Show (open to the public from 12th to 22nd September 2013), will experience the full depth and breadth of Carlsson’s abilities through an impressive display of road and race machinery on their spacious stand in the Open-air East section (FG East, FA178).

The full spectrum of Carlsson Road cars on show will range from the smart fortwo, through the A-class, CLA, and CK63RS to the ML Royale Revox. Carlsson’s motorsport activities will be represented by their racing truck and Reto Meisel’s SLK 340 Judd hillclimb racecar, underlining the fact that Carlsson’s passion for fast cars is forged in the heat of competition.
