Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe concept teased [video]

To be unveiled tomorrow

Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser video with the S-Class Coupe which will be showcased tomorrow at IAA in Frankfurt.

Following several leaked design sketches which proved to be authentic, Mercedes-Benz has uploaded a video on its official YouTube account with the S-Class Coupe concept which confirms the CL-Class moniker has been dropped. Although we don't get to see the car in full, we already can tell it will look considerably different than its four-door siblings.     .

The 2+2 coupe will probably be offered with just about the same engines as regular S-Class models, including the V8 from the S63 AMG and V12 from the upcoming S65 AMG. It will also have the same array of technologies and safety features, along with a slightly revised interior cabin with sportier seats, a three-spoke steering wheel and updated trim.

Chances are the production model will be exhibited in January 2014 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit before reaching dealerships in March.

What a beauty...finally a car worthy of the 3 Star Logo's stature. This is the only other car that I find attractive in the MB line up...the other one being the previous S Class Coupe or more specifically the 2009 CL Class...I find that all other Mercedes Benzes are a little too dull looking...

Wow that is beautiful, such a perfectly designed car. Real excited to see it tomorrow and in dealerships next year! I gotta say, I've always been a huge fan of the CL class, but feel bad because it get's no love. If people want sport they go CLS/SL, if they want luxury they go CLS/S... CL is such a unique car that doesn't get appreciated :( With CL now being S Coupe, I can see sales tripling what the CL did

i don't think the name enough will change it's sales figures. there are a lot of problems with the CL, including direct competition from other Mercedes models as you highlight. there was almost no reason to buy a CL - if 2 seats was enough then the SL was the same price, and was a hard top convertible to boot. it was also better to drive. if you needed 4 seats, the S-Class is more practical, and had diesel engines which (at least in Europe) made the vast bulk of the sales. for those who need part time 4 seat capability the CLS is better looking, lighter (and thus better handling) and again available with diesel engines. by changing the name to S-Class coupe none of the above really changes. my dad had the W126 SEC and the C140 CL. family friends have owned the C215 and the C216 and whilst undeniably they are lovely cars, there are always better options in the Mercedes range.

You don't buy CL as a resonable choice. You buy it as a statement. In that case competition from other, lesser MB models is irrelevant. Maybe SL a bit.

I dunno why the down vote, what you said is absolutely true. Like any coupe, the CL/S coupe is a statement in form over function. People must sacrifice practicality to own the coupe version of anything, and accordingly, fewer are always sold.

@desf - with the exception of lower powered CLSs, i don't think many view the models mentioned as lesser choices in the MB range. heads of state use S-Classes, and football stars drive SLs. it is purely subjective i know, but if i wished to make a statement in this price bracket (UK market CLs cost £80k upwards) i don't think i'd buy anything from the MB range at all in that case. MB clearly build this car because SOMEONE wants to buy them and there is a profit in them. all i'm suggesting is that i feel there are better choices. you are of course welcome to disagree. the world would be a boring place if we all had the same tastes. @EdBacau - i never said the CL didn't have 4 seats.

I don't see what the big difference is. Really all they did is change the name? I mean obviously the car is all brand new and gorgeous I've been a fan of the CL for years and this S Coupe concept since its been showing up, but really all they did was tighten it up a bit and change the name. As far as the looks go I do have one issue. The front air inlets on the bottom. BMW 4Series. Just saying. Not a bad thing BUT it is what it is.
