Due at 2014 Paris Motor Show

The next generation of the Renault Twingo was spied recently ahead of its official debut scheduled most likely for September 2014 at Paris Motor Show.

Several months ago Renault gave us a glimpse of the next-gen Twingo by showing the Twin'Run concept. A prototype of the new Twingo can be seen in these spy photos and we already can tell lots of design cues are taken from the aforementioned concept. The new model will share its platform with the next-gen Smart ForTwo and will adopt a rear-wheel drive layout.

Power is expected to come from a range of small and efficient three-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines which should make the new Twingo a great car for city use. Unlike the current model, the next-gen will be available in a five-door configuration and chances are there won't be a three-door variant after all.

I see the rear windows pop out, not roll down. It appears to have a speedo behind the steering wheel not in the middle of the dashboard. I don't see any vents for the engine on the sides of the car. the line of the leading edge of the front door is interesting. It looks like it will get the same low rubbing strips as the clio and megane so it may not be getting the black wheelarches as seen on the Twinfun concept. The appear to have the big black area around the rear view mirror so this car will probably get the autolights, autowipers of the larger renault modesl. I'm very hopeful for this. I might trade down from my megane coupe to this if they have a high spec version available with an automatic type transmission.

The side profile reminds me of the Renault 5 supermini. Judging by that white air-vent trim in the cabin, I'm guessing customisation will be high on the agenda.
