Afzal Kahn turns down six million pound offer for F1 license plate - report

Afzal Kahn turns down six million pound offer for F1 license plate - report
Afzal Kahn from Project Kahn with F1 license plate

Originally bought it for 440,625 pounds

How much would you pay to own Britain's highly prized "F1" license plate? £100,000? £500,000? Try £6,000,000 but even that wasn't enough to temp Afzal Kahn - from A Kahn Design - who currently uses the plate on his Bugatti Veyron.

According to the Daily Mail, Kahn declined the offer despite having only paid £440,625 ($685,745 / €512,700) for the plate back in 2008. Had he sold the plate, he would have made a healthy profit of about £5.5 ($8.6 / €6.4) million.

When asked about the offer, a spokesperson said "We have received a significant multi-million pound offer for the F1 plate which we rejected out of hand." The representative added "Mr Kahn has no interest in selling F1, which is his favorite plate."

The guy spent half a million on a silly license plate to begin with, he obviously does not give a sh!t about money, we should not waste any time reading this.

It's obviously become quite costly to be dumb these days. I've got high tolerance but this is truly sad. Who offers that sum for such an item. What, did God dress his/her Mercedes with this very plate?! Replicate the damn thing and call it/get a life.

Does Kahn have any involvement in F1? Makes no sense on a car/brand that has never participated in F1, and is not an unbroken continuation of the brand that once competed during the 'Grand Prix' days. If Frank Williams or Ron Dennis had it on a car I could understand.....

It's mind boggling. A piece of plastic with some printed letters on it worth £6,000,000. Who offers that, and who rejects it?! It's just a number plate. That sort of money could buy a whole lotta car with far greater value.

Its not about the price of making a custom plate. Thats easy. He has the ownership of that plate number in all of UK. No one else can have a car with plate number F1 on it and drive on the road legally. If u look up F1 in the police records in UK that plate belongs to this guy on that car. U cant have more than 1 car in the UK the same plate number.

Serious question: why does a simple plate could get so expensive?

It looks like he uses his F1 plate on an SLR, not Veyron.

I would have accepted it, bought an old F1 car with my profits and then I would have the real deal instead of posing it on a car.

So there are two crazy rich people in this story. One who makes a crazy offer, and the other who's crazy enough not to accept it.

I would accept, run off with cash and still keep the F1 place.
