Model will make a cameo at the Mid-Ohio Indy 200

Acura has released the first picture of a NSX prototype undergoing testing.

Posted the company's Twitter account, the image reveals the car will closely mimic the updated NSX concept that debuted at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year. While the picture isn't of the highest quality, it suggests the production model will have new headlights, larger mirrors and restyled air intakes.

The company didn't have much to say about the car, but confirmed a pre-production prototype will be shown at the Mid-Ohio Indy 200 on August 4th. Acura is seeking to get maximum publicity out of the event, so the car will lap the circuit live on NBC.

As we have previously reported, the NSX will be built at Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. It will feature a mid-mounted V6 engine and a Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that has two electric motors that power the front wheels as well as another motor that is integrated into the dual-clutch transmission.

Acura needs to give this car 550+ HP and set the price tag at $110K, and then make a big RWD flagship sedan. I am glad that the NSX will be assembled in the U.S.

had another thought. What does the Acura NSX and the Fisker Karma have in common, there builders took so damn long to bring it to market and made the buying public jump through so many hoops, that we dont care anymore. Just a side note Acura look where fisker is at now

Well to be fare, the production version is not expected to be released until 2015. I don't quite understand what some here are on about.

I don't care about this NSX... For me the NSX was the car that was the everyday supercar, that could humiliate ferraris, porsches and lambos at the track... obviously this new generation will strugle to beat a M3...

So not only have they changed the recipe for the ultimate japanese car, but they've also decided to build it over 2 decades. Who's handling the marketing of this car exactly. building up to be a massive flop at this rate.

Hope the new nsx retains the balance and handling of my beloved original. I've yet to drive another car that over compensates human error, giving wannabe racecar drivers (like myself) added confidence behind the wheel. If it were up to me I still wouldn't change anything about the car other than update the exterior. Still, that's not me saying I have doubts or don't want this in my garage as soon as it hits my local dealership (I do - I really do!).
