BMW i3 returns in more spy shots

To be unveiled this month

The BMW i3 has been spied once again ahead of an official launch programmed for July 29.

Judging by the previous spy photos we published last week, this is the hybrid version equipped with a range-extending engine. It will allegedly make use of a 0.65-liter, two-cylinder motorcycle engine and provide a total range of 186 miles (300 km), a lot more than the pure electric which is estimated to have a range between 88 miles (130 km) and 99 miles (160 km).

Although we can't see from these photos, the right side of the car has two caps which indicate there's a gas tank. Another difference between the EV and the REx variant is the different alloy wheel design which looks more attractive on the range-extender.

And I'm asking it again: why the hell do small electric cars have to look like silly geeky toy cars?

Car makers are being overly cautious, they know electric cars are being looked at by the buying public through a microscope. So rather then making a bold effort like Tesla has with the Model S they're starting their electric cars out as small hatchbacks.

BMW does not like it when its new cars are leaked before the official date. I think they r intentionally, as always and as with other manufacturers, leaking this one early so that by the time they officially present the car we are already used to it(new design etc) and perhaps acceptable to it.

Yes, I have a couple of brochures for the E1, I've noticed a lot of design similarities in the design especially the interior.
