2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe showcased on video

Goes on sale this summer

BMW has released another video presenting the recently launched 2014 4-Series Coupe.

Replacing the outgoing 3-Series Coupe, the all-new 4-Series Coupe is 26mm (1 inch) longer, 43mm (1.7 inches) wider and 16mm (0.6 inches) lower, with a 50mm (2 inches) longer wheelbase. Depending on version, it can weigh up to 45 kg (99 lbs) less than its predecessor and can be configured with a variety of optional packages (Sport, Luxury, M Sport, driver's assistance and dynamic handling).

The U.S.-spec model will be available as a 428i model powered by a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo engine delivering 240 bhp (179 kW) and 345 Nm (255 lb-ft), enough for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.7 seconds and an electronically-capped top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). There's also the 435i with its 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter rated at 300 bhp (224 kW) and 406 Nm (300 lb-ft). This will hit 60 mph in 5 seconds on its way to the same limited top speed.

Pricing starts from 41,425 USD for 428i and from 46,925 USD for 435i, while xDrive all-wheel drive system adds 2,000 USD to the car's price.

They call it a 4 series instead of 3 and add 5k to the base price tag; it is a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder and euro is cheaper than a year ago. In my estimation it is not a good value proposition.

Acceleration is impressive. My brother's Insignia 2 ltr with 220hp or so only manages 7 seconds for the 60mph.

The insignia is about 150kgs heavier than the new 3series, and I'd imagine the lack of rear doors means the 4series is probably even lighter. Not to mention that the 240bhp 428i is also faster than the 321bhp Insignia OPC. It really highlights the benefits that can be obtained from lightness.

Could anybody explain to me, why the hell car with 2.0 liter engine and 240 HP is named as 428i?

Because the 2.0L engine has different power levels. Standard 420i has 184hp, so they had to decide for a different badge. But you´re right, it could be a 420is, like the Z4 sDrive35is.
