Gran Lusso production model is considered

Autoprojecoes has envisioned a modern BMW 8-Series based on the recently unveiled Gran Lusso Coupe Concept.

We already know Mercedes-Benz is preparing a coupe version of the new S-Class so it shouldn't come as a surprise if BMW will decide to resurrect the 8-Series moniker in the near future. Seen here is an 8-Series render based on the Gran Lusso Coupe Concept which was shown last month by BMW and Pininfarina at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d’Este.

As you would imagine, this production version is seen as a toned down variant of the concept with a different kidney grille, BMW production lamps and alloys, as well as a redesigned front apron.

I liked the Zegato they teased us with last year. This is elegant and understated, but it seems huge. I don't think I'm a big coupe guy (but i'm definitely not a sedan guy), maybe i'll like them more when i get older, in the meantime, it's Porsche for me.

I can't wait to see the 9 Series and 10 Series but the 11 Series ///M Grand Coupe Vesso Deluxe Sport is going to be next level.

Doesn't look bad but I would expect something less conservative and more courageous. Reminds me of Rolls Royce. And as desf has already mentioned it is more of a GT than a sportscar which doesn't make that much sense right now. I would appreciate much more if BMW made a proper sportscar right now. I know you never earn much money selling a sportscar but it helps the mark to have something special in their showroom.

I completly forgot about RR models in my previosu post. With Phantom and Wraith on top shelf, and 2/4/6 series on the bottom the gap in which 8 would have to fit is definitely not worth the costs.

Thing is that MB has place for CL/S coupe in its lineup since E class coupe is not much bigger, more luxurious or expensive than C coupe. BMW has 6 series which is massively more expensive from upcoming 4 coupe or even 5 sedan. And since it's not much of a sportcar, just luxo-GT it would make little to none sens to put another car in the lineup just for sake of putting there a V12 engine or 20cm more of bodywork.

good point, had bmw made the 6 series lot sportier then this car would make sense. probably bmw just fell in love with what pinin farina had done and had to tease this. now, the only way bmw could rebalance everything is to make this car much more expensive and significantly more luxurious. bmw claim to aim for an up and coming 7-series that is lighter than the current 5-series, going back to closing the gap between the 6 and this 8. oh, man. i love the elegant look ont his though

Well, there is one more option. They can try marketing 4 coupe as something moved far upmarket from 3, then axe 6 series after this gen and badge the next big GT as an 8.
