Will slot below the plug-in hybrid variant

The Accord Plug-in Hybrid might be the "most fuel-efficient sedan in America," but its high price puts it out of the reach of most consumers. Thankfully, Honda has confirmed the development of a standard Accord Hybrid that will be unveiled in Japan on June 20th.

Our Japanese is a little rusty, but Automobile Magazine says the car will use a two-motor hybrid system that consists of a 137 bhp (102 kW) 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine and a 141 bhp (105 kW) electric motor. This should enable the sedan to have a combined maximum output of 196 bhp (146 kW) and a fuel consumption rating of 49 mpg city / 45 mpg highway (US).

Little else is known about the model, but American variants are expected to have restrained styling and a price tag that starts in the high $20,000 range.
