Gordini set to return to its racing origins

Renault COO Carlos Tavares recently revealed his intentions to make Gordini models the "ultimate track-focused" vehicles and new details are starting to emerge about what we can expect.

In a recent interview with PistonHeads, Tavares said he has forbidden the company to use the Gordini name on anything "other than extreme track versions or rally versions of RS [Renaultsport] cars."

The executive declined to go into specifics but said Renaultsport variants of the Clio, Twingo and Megane would be "natural" candidates. As he explained, "If you do an enhanced chassis, an enhanced engine and enhanced brakes" you might as well make it a Gordini.

In related news, Tavares confirmed "We are open and eager to do specific Williams versions." This is undoubtedly a reference to the Clio Williams which is rumored to be launched in 2014.
