BMW M8 due in 2016 with 650 bhp and 250,000 EUR price tag - report
BMW M1 Concept

Based on the i8

New rumors are circulating the web about the BMW M8 which is allegedly due in 2016 to celebrate the brand's centennial year.

Car & Driver reports it will utilize the i8 platform and will be powered by an evolution of the 4.4-liter, direct-injection, V8 TwinPower Turbo inside the M5 (F10). The upgraded mill is expected to provide somewhere in the region of 600 - 650 bhp (447 - 484 kW) sent to wheels through a dual-clutch, eight-speed automatic transmission.

As far as styling are concerned, the same source indicates the M8 will adopt some retro design cues, while the body and structure will make use of lightweight materials like carbon fiber, magnesium, aluminum and titanium - all for the purpose of hitting a target weight of 2,760 lbs (1,252 kg).

Expect a price tag of approximately 250,000 EUR (about 326,000 USD / 211,100 GBP).

The picture above looks exactly like a 1980 BMW M1? They are remaking the exact same car design from 1980?

Outdated info. The M8 was cancelled last minute as previously reported by several sources. There will only be an electric i8.

Actually they said that there won't be an M version of i8. M8 doesn't necessarily sound like it would be an i8 M version, it probably would had been called i8m or something like that.

Yes, but a potential M8 would still need to be based on the i8 platform. BMW's not going to invest millions in an all new mid-engine CFRP platform for such a low volume car. So whatever they would have called it, it's not happening. Why? Because an M8 would steal the i8's thunder, while not bringing anything new to the already overcrowded supercar segment.

@Catzura your explanation does not make any sense. What thunder is all petrol 600 hp supercar, successor to M1, is going to steal from a fuel efficient sports car with a potential of $140k price difference?! BMW needs a car like this, because it will potentially offer a new price margin for BMW and it will glorify its' image further more. With reputation of M3 and M1, and already inflated prices of super cars these days. Rich folks around the world are going to eat this car up, with no harm done to i8 what so ever because i8 is going to be a completely different car.
