Chevrolet explains 2014 Camaro design evolution [video]

"It's not just eye candy. It actually performs"

In this video Chevrolet Program Engineer Manager Mark Dickens explains the Camaro's evolution in terms of design.

After marketing manager John Fitzpatrick did a video tour of the 2014 Camaro SS at the New York Auto Show, now we find out more how the car's design evolved compared to 2013MY. Mark Dickens says "it's not just eye candy. It actually performs" as all styling changes were made by putting performance as the top priority.

Chevrolet wanted to differentiate V6 from V8 versions while at the same time giving the front fascia and taillights (especially) a fresh new look. For the interior clients can opt for Recaro sport seats when ordering the SS or the ZL1. RS package includes LED taillights compared to lower-end versions which feature incandescent lights.

I don´t like the new design .It´s destroying the CAMARO look it has to be a single ROUND headlamp and the rearlamps are also ugly. The Camaro need ROUND Headlamps ! Why is the 69 so sought after............. Wy does the designer crew think they have to change a remarkable face rec ,rearend ? I live in germany ,just back from a 4 week US trip. I was shoked when i saw the ``new`` camaro on the street. Porsche tryed over decades to ´´improve´´ or substitude the 911 (944 ,928,Boxter,and finally the Cayman) AND they FAILED .see the 996s UGLY frontend !!!!! The 997 with the ´´old´´ design was/is gaining respect. GM and FORD have done well by bringing up the Retro Designed Muscle Cars BUT dont change a running design !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont like the 2014 Camaro as much as i like the 2013 (and before) model. Fail GM ,fail ..................... All these technical improvements had also be done under the ´´old´´ body shell ,without looking old. A form atracts more on first sight than the technical improvements . But i think as an European i will never understand these facelift thing. The Americans have done it trough the 60,70, from year to year, fooling the customers with ``all new model´´ year by year. They changes where only outside ( front and rearend) with minor changes in colour and even less minor changes technical wise. Today it seems to be sligthly different, as the technical changes are more, but i can´t foregive GM these designe fauxpas............... Fortuanally the ´´old´´ models will now get cheaper quicker .................... Regards Robert

The FD3S RX7 should have been what the Camaro should have been in the 1990s up to today. The new Camaro is just too fat. Its like GM refuses to put that engine into a lighter car than the the Vette.
