Nissan GT-R Nismo to be fastest ever, pack an 'extra kick'

Should have more than 542 hp (405 kW)

Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer has revealed the upcoming GT-R Nismo will become the fastest GT-R ever made.

Speaking to Autocar, Palmer said the model will have revised styling but most of the changes will involve aerodynamic tweaks for improved downforce. We can also expect a sportier suspension as much of the tuning was done by the Nismo race team which fields the model in Japan's Super GT series.

Palmer declined to mention performance specifications but said the model will have some "extra kick." This likely implies the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine will produce more than 542 hp (405 kW). Regardless of the final numbers, Palmer contends "The production car record at the Nürburgring is the gold standard, and we expect to lower that."

The GT-R Nismo could be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November, so expect to learn more in the coming months.

CeramicRabbit: I think you should mention that P1 will be 10x the price of GT-R. That said, the performance alone of GT-R is not unbeatable (you can get Caterham R500 cheaper). It's the blend of performance, comfort and everyday usability. You really have to pay at least 2x more to buy a car with the same abilities (911 Turbo) or almost 4 times more (Ferrari FF).

Performance I agree. Not comfort or usebility. And GT-R still too heavy. On the track it overheats after 3-4 laps. And car people who love to drive don't like it. 2many computers sorting out your mistakes...no fun.

I didn't realize they were shooting for "fastest lap in price class", the article said they wanted to break the production car record, which would include models ten times more expensive than it.

I think they should make a GT-R with a V8 like the old GT-R GT1 in the FIA GT1 W.C or the GT-R GT500 in the SuperGT series. I know the 3.8 V6 TT is what makes the car so special but I just think it would be cool to have a AWD, V8 GT-R

I can't imagine them holding the ring record for long when SSC is going out there for the same record in the Tuatara, and I'm sure Mclaren will have a word with the P1... then again the GTR has always been basically made for the ringtimes so who knows

In its class the GT-R will hold the ring record. Those two mentioned cars both have in the region of a 1000bhp. Bit unfair to compare the GT-R to those two cars
