Debuts on May 15th

Mercedes is gearing up for the official unveiling of the 2014 S-Class on May 15th and it looks like someone accidently jumped the gun as Mercedes-Benz Austria reportedly posted this official picture of the car on their mobile website.

The image was quickly pulled, but BlogAutomobile managed to get a screenshot before the inevitable happened. As a result, we can see the model will adopt a sportier front fascia with a prominent grille, LED-infused headlights and larger air intakes.

While only one image was leaked, we already know the model will move upmarket to help fill the gap left by Maybach. This means the S-Class will feature a variety of luxurious options including heated / ventilated seats, a rear seat entertainment system and an "Air Balance Package" that filters and ionizes the air and can even dispense perfume. We can also expect a rear passenger compartment that offers Maybach-inspired tray tables and "Chauffer Seats" which are ten-way adjustable and have a power-deployable footrest.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but choices are expected to include a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8, a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 and a new V12. There should also be diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants but little is known about them as of yet.

Many luxurious german cars look better to me from the inside than outside, this is no exception. Headlights are boring to me. Seems like MB does the audi trick.

What a truly beautiful car! I am a huge Audi A8 fan, but I wouldn't know which one to choose.

Why do all Mercedes Benz's look so awkward and ugly? I would still go for Audi A8

why do I find the last gen a bit more... itself... as an S-class than this one?! This still got class but i mean where's all that gentleness? the calm and elegant look expected? where have they gone?

this one is 100x more elegant than the last gen. a coherent front end, no more bulging wheel arches, sculpted body lines..etc.

Yes but I think that makes it a bit more boring at least the side of it. Also the exhaust tips should be a bit bigger in height... But I can only judge properly in person.

yeah true but thats in terms of standing out from the crowd and sportiness. If you look closely at the front bumper for instance, there are more lines and edges to catch the light that make the air intakes slightly larger than usual on the last S-class or any other sedan, & the side skirt as well, it seems wide and very aerodynamic. It's still having that awesome design in aesthetics perspectives tho but a bit biased sportiness which I don't expect that much in this segment if you know what I mean. Maybe this one has the AMG package on. Overall, not bad, not very old school anymore, really like it

This picture is quite exaggerated. Had the pleasure of seeing it in person last week, it's a lot softer and more natural than the old one in design terms.

No innovation whatsoever on the front end design. But it still looks nice.

Mercedes is continuing there honored tradition of polarizing the segment with a "revolutionary" s-class (W221), then critiquing that models flaws and introducing an "evolutionary" s-class next (w222). The only time this didnt happen was the jump from W140 to W220...because the W140 "evolved" into the Maybach (W240). And, for anyone who was paying attention, the car looks EXACTLY like they said it would. A combination of F700, F800 and Concept Ocean Drive.

That grill looks very domineering, especially if it fills your rear-view mirror! "move out of the way poor person"

Looks even more awkward than the CLA... the non AMG bumper will probably look even worse.
