Audi Q8 finally confirmed

 Audi Q8 finally confirmed
Audi Crosslane Coupe concept live in Paris 27.09.2012

As a Range Rover Sport rival

Audi has officially confirmed plans to launch a range-topping SUV which will wear the Q8 moniker.

We have heard endless rumors about a Q8 model and now the firm's research and development chief Wolfgang Durheimer has revealed there will be such a model. Designed as a competitor for the recently unveiled 2014 Range Rover Sport, the Audi Q8 will adopt a coupe-like roofline and is envisioned as an SUV variant of the A8.

It will ride on VW's MLB platform which will underpin several other models such as the next-gen Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. In an interview given to Autocar, Durheimer said "we can go bigger than we have with the Q7, and we can all see that this sector is growing."

I must admit that I don´t fancy this AUDI model much. In my eyes it looks like a small car (perhaps A1) that has grown too big. The intent of the design is good and contemporary, but somehow it does not hold any elegance compared to several other AUDI models - the surfaces are so big and makes it look very heavy even a bit clumsy - it´s somehow trying to hard to be "the" SUV Coupe. I thought I would never say this but the wheels are simply too big. Anyway it´s still a concept so let´s see where it goes. I do understand the intent for making an AUDI for this segment. Overall it still could promise some dynamic direction more interesting than the Q3 which is terrible boring.

I can't wait until the new Q7 and Q8 comes out, I just always feel sick when I look at the BMW X6.

But shouldn't this be called Q5 since it's a coupe inspired SUV. I mean A8 is the largest sedan Audi has to offer yet this isn't the largest SUV.

No kidding, that model is sorely in need of a replacement.

I don't normally drive SUV's, but if I did, I would drive this one.

Me too, probably. Now we have to wait for months and possibly a year or 2 to see how the production model may look like.
