Arriving sometime this year

A new batch of spy photos with the BMW i8 has arrived at our office, ahead of an official reveal scheduled later this year.

BMW has conducted a significant amount of testing for its upcoming hybrid supercar which will finally be unveiled in several months, most likely in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This latest set of spy shots shows a heavily camouflaged prototype testing at Nürburgring and wearing production-ready taillights.

Power will come from an electric motor and a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, as opposed to the concept which had a diesel engine. This updated hardware should allow the BMW i8 reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in about 4.8 seconds.

Reports are indicating a steep starting price of 150,000 EUR (approximately 197,835 USD / 129,295 GBP).

a Lamborghini or a Ferrari or Bentley which costs around or even above and no one says any of them "overpriced". What kind of customers are you?!

Customers who cant afford any of the above. And don't worry, the "but the lambo and ferrari is way faster" replies will come, blatanlty ignoring the whole point of this hybrid car which is more about balance of power AND effeciency than outright power which will send you to the nearest gas station every couple of miles.

yes, Lambos and Ferraris are faster but a lot more expensive as well, and why you say theyre not overpriced. While this BMW is cheaper, and "who cant afford" say its overpriced! WTH? and dont say accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.8sec is slow. You cant afford one of these "overpriced", let your bulls and horses stay "cheap" in your dream then!

Crazy expensive! It's a bmw at the end of the day. I hope bmw looks at this as purely a R/D exercise and publicity hound because it won't sell.

I'm not a BMW fan, not to mention the engine is also a bit of a disappointment. HOWEVER, this car looks perfect

Yep, the looks reminds me of a Subaru SVX. I think I'd prefer the SVX, although the windows look like they work on the BMW.
