BMW i8 spied at Nürburgring with production taillights

Arriving sometime this year

A new batch of spy photos with the BMW i8 has arrived at our office, ahead of an official reveal scheduled later this year.

BMW has conducted a significant amount of testing for its upcoming hybrid supercar which will finally be unveiled in several months, most likely in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This latest set of spy shots shows a heavily camouflaged prototype testing at Nürburgring and wearing production-ready taillights.

Power will come from an electric motor and a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, as opposed to the concept which had a diesel engine. This updated hardware should allow the BMW i8 reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in about 4.8 seconds.

Reports are indicating a steep starting price of 150,000 EUR (approximately 197,835 USD / 129,295 GBP).

a Lamborghini or a Ferrari or Bentley which costs around or even above and no one says any of them "overpriced". What kind of customers are you?!

Crazy expensive! It's a bmw at the end of the day. I hope bmw looks at this as purely a R/D exercise and publicity hound because it won't sell.

I'm not a BMW fan, not to mention the engine is also a bit of a disappointment. HOWEVER, this car looks perfect
