To rival the Audi A5

A new report indicates Saab was preparing a coupe version of the 2013 9-3 which was going to receive the Sonett moniker.

The name comes from three sports cars built by the Swedish firm during 1955-1974 and the new model was conceived as a 2+2 coupe to compete with the Audi A5. Several 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engines from MINI would have powered the 2013 9-3 Sonett and Saab was also allegedly planning to offer an all-wheel drive, performance variant featuring an electrically-powered rear axle with torque vectoring for better handling.

The car was envisioned with an elongated wheelbase and shorter front overhangs. At first it was going to be sold with headlights and mirrors from the 2009 9-5 model but in 2014 Saab was planning to bring a facelift with new headlights and other styling tweaks.

More details and a render (not final design) are available at the source link below.

From one view you are right, Saab failed to deliver exciting and quality cars the last decade but there's a reason why at some point it had the most loyal buyers in the industry. Saab used to be great. My last 93 was a decent car but had its share of problems and its quality wasn't even close to its lower status sister brand Opel. So, yes its death was inevitable.

I am not saying that it is great that they went bust, it shouldn't be like that. But what is the point to do articles about what could've been if.
