Plug-in hybrid variant could travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electricity alone

We've already heard rumors that the 2014 Audi A4 would be lighter and more stylish, but new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming model.

Autobild is reporting that engineers are working tirelessly to ensure "every detail is better than before." As a result, the model is expected to feature a more luxurious interior with an advanced MMI infotainment system.

Engineers have also been hard at work making sure the car is lighter than its predecessor. The body is expected to shave 50 kg (110 lbs) thanks to the use of aluminum, magnesium and plastic components. We can expect a variety of other changes which could enable the model to weigh 100 kg (220 lbs) less overall.

Engine options will reportedly include:

  • A 1.4-liter TSI with 150 HP (110 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 2.0-liter TSFI with outputs of 177 HP (130 kW) and 225 HP (165 kW)
  • A 2.0-liter TDI with outputs of 122 HP (90 kW), 136 HP (100 kW), 150 HP (110 kW) and 190 HP (140 kW)
  • A 3.0-liter V6 TDI with outputs of 218 HP (160 kW) and 272 HP (200 kW)

About a year after the car is launched, we can expect a plug-in hybrid variant with a 2.0-liter TSFI petrol engine and an e-quattro system that has electric motors on the front and rear axles. This, combined with a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, could enable the model could travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electricity alone.

I like Audi products. They are great, but when it comes to the A4 specifically,I cnt get the fact that this car has no tradition or heritage or some significant history unlike the 3 series. I cant get over that.

As a 6 time A4 driver, it will be interesting to see how they are going to differentiate to the new A3 sedan.

there will be a badge at the back with the letter "A" and the number "4". in the A3, the number "3" will replace the number "4". there is no other way to differentiate modern audis.
